Frederick Benjamin Smythe, 82, of Whitewater, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born in Denver on August 11, 1942, Fred spent his childhood in Siloam Springs, AR and Albuquerque, NM. He met his loving wife, Pam, in Albuquerque while in high school. They moved to Fife, Washington where Fred served as a police sergeant. After returning to Albuquerque for a short time, the family settled in Delta in 1986, where they resided for many years.

Fred held numerous jobs after retiring from the police force, but he most enjoyed working around his home, becoming a private pilot and aircraft owner, reading about the Civil War and WW2, watching the Colorado Rockies on tv, and camping and fishing with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Pam, and his three children: Steve of Kingsport, TN; Sarah (Shawn Gardner) of Whitewater; and Will (Jen) of Raleigh, NC; as well as grandchildren Kimber, Jonathan, Isabella, Benjamin, Olivia, Caleb, Evan, and Kate. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty; brother, Wes; and grandson, Steven.

Fred will be remembered for his quiet, hard-working, and kind demeanor. He loved his children and grandchildren deeply, and he left a legacy of faith in Jesus. The family want to extend deep gratitude to Hope West Hospice for all their support and help in the last few months. Fred's family mourns his loss yet celebrates his homecoming and restoration in heaven.
