Fredric Garonzik Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 10 to Nov. 11, 2008.
GARONZIK--Fredric B., 66, on November 8, 2008. Beloved husband of Anne, father of David and Sam, brother of Neal. Rick had many loving cousins and nephews. He was born in Gloversville, New York to the late Ruth and Harold and attended Gloversville public schools before matriculating at Deerfield Academy, from which he graduated in 1960. He received an A.B. degree in political science from Brown University in 1964. After receiving his degree, he worked for a year for the Superb Glove Company of Johnstown, New York, then attended the Wharton School, where he received his M.B.A. in 1967. He worked for Grey Advertising as an account executive before moving to the financial services industry, joining Goldman, Sachs & Co. in 1972, where he had a long and distinguished career in New York and London. He was made a General Partner of Goldman, Sachs in 1984 and retired in 1998 as co-head of the Fixed Income Currency and Commodities Division. Rick was a trustee of Brown University, and headed its Investment Committee. Over the years, he served on the boards of the Union Settlement Association, the American Federation for Aging Research and The Buckley School. Rick enjoyed outdoor sports of all kinds, particularly golf. His greatest and most obvious pleasure, however, was enjoying time with his family, who will miss him always. The family will receive friends at The Colony Club 564 Park Ave at 62nd St. on Wednesday November 12th from 5-8pm. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2008 at 11am at The Unitarian Church of All Souls, 1157 Lexington Avenue at 80th Street, New York, New York. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fredric B. Garonzik Memorial Fund at Brown University, Box 1893, Providence, Rhode Island 02912-1893.

I enjoyed working for/with Mr. Garonzik as a member of the Chechessee Creek Club. He was an avid golfer and wine connoisseur.

Anne and family,
We were shocked to hear of Rick's passing and sad for the loss of a wonderful, funny "cousin". The best people are taken too soon.

Rick was a special guy who was willing to share his talent (and good humor) in all directions. Betsy and I are heartbroken.
