Freedom Franklin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 16, 2024.
Freedom Sky Franklin, 7 years old, was born on August 28, 2016, she attended Coleman A. Young Elementary and passed away on June 11, 2024, at children's hospital in Detroit, Michigan.

She brought joy to all who knew her; Freedom was creative, she loved to draw, sing, dance, make music, and to read in the dark. She loved her brother King; they enjoyed playing video games together.

A natural born leader, Freedom was described as bossy but loving. She was also sassy with a love for correcting others. She enjoyed learning Spanish and incorporating new words into her vocabulary.

She would always get into her sister's makeup (without permission of course). She loved to shop; she was quite the fashionista. She also LOVED to eat and enjoyed trying many different foods.

Freedom was referred to as having an "old soul", she was a very peaceful girl who didn't like loud noises and was never comfortable with any type of discord. She had a calm spiritual nature and shared a special bond with her mother; She described her mom as her hero, "A Shape Shifter" because she could fix anything in her eyes.

She touched the lives of all who knew her and will be deeply missed by her mother, Chenise Esther Franklin, father, Derrick Lamont Murray, her 6 siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many of her teachers and friends.

Instead of flowers, the family requests that all donations be sent to

May her spirit soar in Freedom, and may her memory be a blessing to all who knew her.

I remember when we were trying to get her to play with the other kids outside but she would always end up alone playing by herself. She was so reserved and to herself but don't let that fool you she was a loud happy kid. Always happy. I miss her so much.

I remember when she would come in the room with me and Zoe and she would just stand there waiting for us to say something to her and she'll just walk out. She loved being involved. She loved being around us. She was always just around singing or dancing or making king mad because she was glued to his hip. God I miss her so much. I love you freedom.

GOD bless Freedom! I didn't have the pleasure of making her acquaintance, but her loving spirit is apparent from the teachers and everyone who knew her. We at Coleman A. Young Elementary view all of our babies as our own, whether they were in our class or not. Sending love and light to the family during this difficult time. Love, Ms. Leavy
