Freeman 'Wayne' Owens was one of 11 children born to Pete Freeman and Susie Elenor (Akin) Owens. Wayne was born on September 9, 1937, in Leonard, Texas. He is survived by only one sibling, his younger brother, Coy Owens, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

When Wayne was 17, he asked his mom and dad to co-sign for him to join the Navy, but they refused. So, Wayne waited and joined the Navy on March 5, 1956, at the age of eighteen. His assigned duties consisted of being a Machinist Mate, Third Class Petty Officer, serving on the USS POINT DEFIANT. Wayne finished his Navy commitment on March 5, 1960, with an Honorable Discharge.

Wayne's careers of choice were Mechanic and Diesel Mechanic. He had a passion and a wealth of knowledge for automotive repair and rebuild. He was blessed to make his living doing something that he loved. It also afforded him the opportunity to earn a little extra money for his hobbies, by working on cars for his friends and family. One of Wayne's hobbies included learning to fly a single engine private plane. His passion pushed him to put himself through classes, earning his pilot's license. The sky was the limit for him at this point in his life, and his love of being in the open air was shared with those closest to him.

Wayne was a straight-shooter, who would always give you his honest opinion. He was reserved, but not shy, and always had a quick, sarcastic response at the ready. Wayne was always authentic, ever-reliable, and stepped up time and time again to support his family and loved ones. His legacy will live on forever in the hearts of those he's left behind; forever cherished and missed.
