Dear Mrs. Davis - It's sad I didn't get to tell you in life how much you and your Psyche classes meant to me over the years. You scared the beejeebers out of me on several occasions, but you also taught me how to grow up -

That included your teaching me it was possible and HOW to be able to read my dreams - which has become an invaluable tool for me especially in times of stress. For the past 4 years I have wanted to contact you but didn't know how. You were one of my very favorite teachers of all time, and a week doesn't go by without my thinking of what you taught me. I have also passed on your wisdom to my own children. Thank You!

Whatever I write here won't seem like enough to honor her life. I read all the entries; many from her former students. She was an original and I dearly loved her. Don't ask her anything you don't really want to know the answer to. We had many a lunch when lobster time was upon us at the Red Lobster. Always amazed me how much energy she had. She had a great sense of humor, most fun and interesting to spend time with. She helped me with my father and my now husband and that's how we came to be fast friends. Larry's and my thoughts and prayers are with her family. We will never forget her. Bless you all and Frieda, may you rest in peace.

I wanted to send a message to Mrs. Davis's family. Your mom was an original. Teaching and helping people went way beyond the 3pm bell ringing at the end of the school day. I have seen her from time to time over the years and she was always so caring and available. She meant so much to so many people and for me she was a saving grace. I will never forget her and my life is better for having known her.

Mrs. Davis was a gifted teacher. After all these years I still retain some of what I learned in her classes. She challenged us to think critically, and my interest in social history continued into a history minor in college. My condolences to her family.

Mrs. Davis Was a fantastic teacher, she really cared about you. Caught me off guard at first, but she quickly won me over. I was lucky to have such a loving, caring teacher. She did a lot for a lot of kid's moral and self image. Thank you Mrs. Davis, you made a huge difference <3

Dear Dave and family,
My heart felt sympathy on the passing of your mom. As as adults, the age or quality of life make it easier for us to understand the passing of our parents but no less difficult to accept.
Your mom was a larger than life
personality, I'm sure you'll have cherished memories from all who knew her.

To Mrs. D's family, My thoughts an prayers go out to you. I want you to know how much I appreciated your mother. She was a true mentor and she never gave up on any of her students. If not for her I would not have graduated high school. No matter how stupid I acted she always helped me see the error of my ways. I can not say how Thankful, I am for her unending encouragement. I visited her many times after graduation over the years, an it meant so much to me. She will never be forgotten. May she RIP!

Mrs. Davis was my home-room teacher in "junior high" That term is a clue to how long ago! Typically the time alotted to homeroom would not lend itself to much time to impress, but she did impress me, comfort me, inspire me, and provide a wonderful example of being true to one's self. I remember her fondly. A spirit such as hers does not perish.

Mrs. Davis was one of my most treasured teachers while attending McDowell. I sat in front of class and she made History/goverment so exciting. She was not only a teacher, but a friend and was someone who provided advice.

The Family of Mrs Davis: Some people come into your life for a reason other than the obvious. Mrs. Davis was one of those people in my life. I had her for ancient history at JS and world Cultures too, I believe. She was a STRONG somewhat opinionated woman that didnt take any bs from anyone - kids or adult!. She LOVED teaching and created a love of learning in me that has remained to this day. I just commented yesterday that at 57 I wanted to go and take some college courses just because...I can still remember her teaching us the Reformation in 8th grade and I bet I can still diagram that out with minimal help!! She taught me to be a strong woman and when I saw her at the Chinese restaurant in Erie about 6-7 yrs ago I stopped and said hello and she remembered me!(Which I thought was amazing!!)We talked for a little and I gave her a hug and said thank you and she teared up!! I think she saw a little of herself in me and thats why she and I didnt always get along in school but later on when I would see her she always reminisced and smiled that "knowing" smile she had! She will be greatly missed and forever cherished!

Thank you Mrs. Davis for touching so many of our lives. I remember you once put your arm around me and gave me a hug. At that moment, it meant the world to me. Thanks for being a great teacher on all levels.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I have always remembered Mrs. Davis as one of my favorite teachers at both J.S. Wilson and McDowell. I would often see her around town years after I had graduated and she would always take the time to catch up with what I was doing. When I received an award in college, she was one of the first to call my mom and say how proud she was. My mom would see her often and Mrs. Davis became her friend. Your entire family is in my thoughts today during this time. She will be greatly missed, but so fondly remembered.

A prayer for Mrs. Davis's family and friends. So sorry for your loss. Mrs. Davis was my teacher at McDowell High School. I was a graduate in 1976. I was so fond of her and her witt and fantastic sense of humor and her way of communicating. Not to ever forget the scent of Taboo Perfume in the Halls'. May she rest in peace. God Bless.

So sad to hear the news. Mrs. Davis was an incredible person. She was my teacher at McDowell High School and she really cared about her students. Sometimes I would stay after school and talk with her, she went above and beyond in helping people. After I graduated and moved away, when I would return to Erie every summer I would call her and we would update each other on our lives. Several times I went with other classmates to visit her at her house so many years later. She was one of a kind and the world has lost a fabulous woman. She was the most significant teacher I have ever had. My prayers go out to her family. I will miss you Mrs. Davis.

Sad to say good bye to such a special lady. I worked at McDowell with her for many years and really enjoyed knowing her. She taught both of my children and they loved her. My daughter house sat for her and watched her dogs at times when she was away. We will always remember her and pray for her.

To Ms. Davis' family,

I only knew your mother for the last semester of my senior year at McDowell, but she had a lasting impact. She invited a Holocaust survivor to speak with our class (someone I'd guess you know well). After becoming a teacher myself, I trained at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in DC as a Teacher Fellow, and now serve on the Regional Education Corps as part of a group of teachers contracted to create curriculum, design and deliver workshops, and support ongoing Museum Education programming on the Holocaust and Contemporary Mass Atrocities. I trace this back to your mother's influence.

She lives on in the work she inspired in so many others. I wish you all peace.

How I loved Mrs. Davis!!!! I had her for psychology my senior year at McDowell 75. My seat was center front. She was the best. Mrs. Davis had a gift when it came to teaching. Sad to see she's gone but very glad to have known her.

To Frieda's family,

The "old" Teachers' Room at McDowell was a special place. It provided a forum for daily discussions and arguments on any given subject, punctuated by wit and much laughter, and created a circle of strong friendships that has endured. Frieda was an integral part of this circle because, to our everlasting appreciation, she was never dull. We will miss her and hold her dear in our shared memories. We send you our deepest sympanthy and love. She was so proud of all of you.

There is always someone in your life, who teaches you the important lesson. For me it was "Mrs.Davis", ny teacher at both JS Wilson Jr High and McDowell. I have often thought of that lesson(and the many others )that helped to mold so many of us, and have always held a special memory of her. Mrs. Davis you taught the tough lessons we needed, both in class and life. You will always be remembered for being stright forward, truthful, and loving. RIP

To me, Frieda will always be known as Mrs. Davis, one of my teachers at J.S. Wilson Jr. High School. I enjoyed listening to her stories and even asked her to sign one of my J.S. Wilson yearbooks. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends and former students.

To the Family of Mrs. Davis,

I loved your Mother's special way of teaching, I was a student of her's and learned so much about the differant cultures of the world, she really made it fun and interesting and when I hear something about-say the Mayan culture I say I know that Mrs. Davis taught us that.
Thank you Mrs. Davis!

I was only just thinking about Frieda a week or so ago and the memories are still as fresh in my mind as ever.

She was such an amazing woman and this obituary said it perfectly. Frieda was the one who inspired me to be creative as a teacher and even though teaching didn't become my profession after all, I still carried her words with me when I went to work with the mentally ill population.

I started off as a skills trainer and so of course needed to be "creative". I like to think that a lot of who I was as a teacher, then and even now as a parent, came from her.

I've run across Frieda many times over the years while she still lived in Erie and it was as if we'd just seen one another a day or so ago instead of years. It didn't take much to get her to remember who I was and that was another part of who she was; a woman who had a remarkable memory.

She will be so missed and my prayers go out to her family at this time.
