Dear Waltrude and Family,

I just learned of Fritz's passing and wanted to pass on my condolences. I remember meeting you and the children in that little town in Germany called Doffingen. You and Fritz were so patient with me and the other Americans as we stuggled with our German. I am constantly reminded of Fritz as his drawings and woodcuts of Doffingen and other towns in the area still hang on the walls of my home. I also shall never forget one of the most moving experinces of my life when Bill Ferguson and I helped get you all to the train station in Stuttgart as you began your long trip to a new life in Canada.

Steffi and Fritz' family - I am a very distant relative from WI and never had the pleasure of meeting Fritz. I have learned some of the family from Steffi and Barbara. It sounds like Fritz had a very good life, loved his family, and was a very, very accomplished artist. His family is so lucky to have his artwork to treasure forever.

My Onkel Fritz was a very talented artist already when he was a teenager. I looked at most of his pictures and portraits as a child in Germany and Canada. He will always be remembered and his pictures in my house will always be there as long as I live.

Dear Waltraude and all. We were so sorry to hear of Fritz's passing. Even though we have not seen you for so long, the art work we possess, created by Fritz, has remained an integral part of our home. We have so many fond memories and happy thoughts around our times together so many years ago. I am sure he leaves a big hole in all your lives.
We are going to try very hard to come to the memorial on Saturday. Hopefully we will see you then.
Much Love
Barb and John Purdie

A unique and outstanding man has left us, his family, his many friends, and admirers. I am thankful for the memorable hours, and moments, that I shared with him; moments, that were decorated with his mosaic stories of and reflections on a rich, long life as a gifted artist. His gentle good humour always provided the extra zest to these moments. He generously shared with us his many gifts, be they tangible or inspirational, and allowed us to see nature and the world through the eyes of an artist. His taste was clear, and remained unclouded by the often so fashionable arty views and values in modern life. His art was his life, uncompromising and honest. I fondly remember his kind and quiet manner of introducing and encouraging young people to learn more about and practice with the various art media. He will be missed.

What I'll remember most about my great uncle Fritz: his pet turtles that we saw when we used to visit as a child, and his big joyful laugh with his arms up in the air! ; ) It was so delightful to have seen him laugh like that still, only 2 months ago. You will always be remembered! love Monika & family

No one who met this sweet and gentle man will ever forget his extraordinary range of knowledge or his remarkable talents. Beneath his quiet exterior, there blazed a great beacon of intelligence. Fritz was a gift to the world.
