He is a veteran of WWII and enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 where he flew as a ball turret gunner on the B-17 Yankee Doodle Dandy. G.W. and his crew were shot down over Germany on his 21st mission in 1944. He was a P.O.W. for almost a year and was liberated in 1945 and was awarded the Air Medal and a Purple Heart.
He returned home to his beloved Macon County where he spent most of his life. He is also survived by 9 great grandchildren Matthew and Zachary Adcock, Ann Marie Scott, Collin, Olivia, and Jackson Hauskins, and Kadance and Kenneth Hauskins, and Macklin Hart. Although Alzheimer's was a constant enemy in his later years, G.W. never lost sight of his love for God and shared that with those that cared for him. He was constantly saying Amen, Amen, and offered prayers at mealtime. As he prayed for so many over the years, he never stopped praying for everyone around him. The family is eternally grateful to his many caregivers in Lafayette, at the Hearth in Hendersonville and at NHC Place, who were always kind and loving toward G.W.
Funeral services for G.W. Hauskins were conducted on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at 1 PM from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Barry Miller officiating.
