Condolences to the Swartz family. Just back to work in the refinery after two weeks off, shocked to hear of Gabe's death. While we hardly ever agreed, we shared a commitment to building the union and Gabe set a good example for us all in that.

My condolences to the Swartz family. I worked with Gabe for the last 11+ years and spent many 12 hour shifts with him. He truly was a pleasure to work with. He cared about his co-workers and the people that came down to our units. He was always full of life and really cared about the safety and well being of the people he worked with. He loved joking around and singing. Many of us were at the center of his jokes but it was all in good humor! We all loved Gabe like family and will truly miss him. RIP Gabe, Fatty.

It was very sad hearing the news of Gabe's passing. He was a good guy. I remember him talking about his daughter and his mom all the time. He had so much love for both of them: He would forever be known as "Mr. Karaoke" wherever there was karaoke, there Gabe would be. He'll surely be missed.

Gabe, fought the good fight, for the right reasons. I will miss his steadfast unwavering commitment to doing the right thing when presented with the superfluous whims of the day. Thanks for reminding us of the importance of our everyday here on this earth, for tomorrow is guaranteed to no one.

So many of you know of Gabriel, but not much about him. He liked it that way. He kept it that way. But something everyone should know is the world lost one of the kindest, most intelligent, most gentle, most caring person I know. He didn't let everyone see that side of him. You only got to see what he wanted you to see.
The amazing things hes done for my family the past twenty years breaks my heart to know that I'll never get a chance to repay him. I'm thankful for all the great times we had together, or the sad losses we took together and every crazy moment in between. I'm also thankful that through him I've met some truly wonderful people that he kept hidden away.
Nothing is ever really gone unless its forgotten.
Gabriel will never be forgotten.

I was one of Gab's favorite Karaoke DJs. We meet some years ago at a karaoke night in the city. He was so full of life. We later got to know each other, what an amazing man we was. Truly a blessing to have met Gab and call him my friend...

I was there the very first time Gabe sang karaoke. It was at Finnigans Wake! Over the years...the songs he chose to sing in many ways...turned him into the "Life of the Party!" Gabe became a staple in the Philadelphia Karaoke scene....and in my opinion he is a Karaoke Legend! We will all miss Gabe and treasure the memories we had with him!

Gabe was a high school classmate/pal and we reconnected recently via karaoke and sang a couple of duets in September. He was a good guy and he will be terribly missed. His smile will forever be etched in my lasting memories and the sound of his voice will always sing in my heart and like all music, will soothe my soul.

November 4, 2016

Gabe was one of a kind & quite unforgettable. He could drive you crazy, entertain you, and humble you all in one shift. I'll never forget laughing my head off at our poor attempts to complete a gas testing chore while he attempted to keep a straight face and remain all business. Gabe was all business at work, and that's one of the things I truly respected about him.

Dear Swartz Family. Gabe will be missed in so many ways. He was a unique individual and there is no one like him that I have ever met in my life. I liked Gabe very much. My condolences to all of Gabe's family and friends, I'm sorry for your loss. Gabe was a very nice person, with a wonderful heart. Regarding his karaoke skills, what he lacked in talent, he sure made up with enthusiasm; no one did Atomic Dog like Gabe!

I would like to extend my condolences to Gabe's family, friends and our refinery coworkers. He was truly one of a kind, a diligent safety representative and a genuine soul. I'm glad that I got to know him personally, away from the work environment. One of the funniest days of my life was watching him sing Karaoke at McGillicudy's-loud, proud and without abandon. I will miss his quirky, unique, kind way. Rest Easy and keep an eye out for us brother.

Gabe was a one of a kind guy. He had a HUGE heart and he would never ever hurt you. He tried to be the Devil's Advocate during some heated discussions at the Union Hall over the years. He always amazed us for his memory of a page in the contract book but he forgot where he parked his car in the lot. We would say Only Gabe ! His work ethics speaks volumes for the person he was. He will be missed at work and being a valuable asset of our USW E board. He left us too early period. We will always remember Gabe. My condolences to his family.

Gabe was a member of my crew at the Philadelphia refinery. Before that I knew him when he was a guard there. He was a huge boxing fan and was an ex-boxer who had sparred with some famous boxers. He was a tireless worker and smart, funny, upbeat, honest to a fault, and had an amazing memory. He was always so giving to everyone around him. He took a lot of ribbing and gave it right back and seemed to enjoy all of it. I have so many memories of him that still make me smile or laugh. So sad to lose him so soon. I am glad he was my friend. My sincere condolences to his family.

"....I am convinced that the only people worthy of consideration in this world are the unusual ones. For the common folks are like the leaves of a tree, and live and die unnoticed. L. Frank Baum

My condolence's to Gabe's loved ones on their loss. As LFB points out above, only the unusual people of this world are worthy of consideration, in this fallen world an unusual person is surely a person who is not ordered along the lines of the fallen world. An unusual person then, is one of integrity. Gabe had integrity, and as others mentioned, he was also a kind hearted soul. He also had a fun loving spirit, as anyone who has seen his performance of Atomic Dog can testify.

I pray for Gabe's family, friends, and coworkers to soon find peace in Gabe's passing and know that he left his mark on the world he has left behind. He will now begin a journey and forever his mark will be in heaven. He rarely judged, was always honest, his quirky personality although sometimes different was never to a negative, his love for boxing, dancing, singing, and his tremendous knack for remembering will make us all think of him often, never forgetting a story. You were the leader of the "1999 in training duckling squad"- you finished every test first, because you were so gifted, and wouldn't settle for less. Thank you Gabe for all you ever were for and to us all. May we all smile & laugh in remembering you.

Sorry to hear that Gabe passed away. He is missed by all of us. He was the ultimate karaoke guy. He had his own style and was a good friend to me and many others. I always was glad to see him. He would even help me bring in my Karaoke equipment when ever he was there. I'm going to miss seeing him at karaoke.

He truly cared deeply about his daughter, parents, his niece, brothers and the people he worked with. He was a great person to know and be around he loved to sing, (Even though he was terrible at It) dance, talk politics and finance, and joke around with his co workers. I f you knew Gabriel you life was better for it he will truly be missed
