Gail, 85, was born on a farm east of Marion, Kansas, on July 29, 1938 to Harry and Edna Dody. He was the fifth of six children: Glenn Robert (Colorado Springs and Phoenix AZ), Doris Penner (Eldorado, KS), Donald (Portland OR), Gail, and Jean Caloway, (Arlington, TX) deceased. Survived by Viola Bernhart (OK).
Gail and his sister rode a horse to their country school every day. He attended Marion High School and graduated in 1956. In addition to his studies, he participated in football, basketball, and several clubs.
His first job was mowing grass along the highways of Marion County as a teenager.
He married Sandra Higgins Dody on September 6, 1959. Together they had three children; Kristi Diane, Bradley Scott, and Brian Lee.
When Gail was 18, he left his home in Marion and went to Wichita to work for Boeing Aircraft Company. Through his career of 38 years at Boeing, he worked for Boeing Computer Sciences in data processing, programming analyst and management.
Gail and Sandy retired July 1, 1995. Gail had an active life after retirement. He volunteered with Ability Point, an organization for adults with intellectual disabilities. He worked several years on the Christmas lights display for the public to enjoy every Christmas season.
He also worked several years on the Starkey Board of Directors, the organization his daughter, Kristi, has attended for 41 years.
His main hobby, however, was going to and helping with auctions. He loved seeking out garage sales and auctions to buy his antiques. He worked in his garage to repair everything before selling his items at Paramount Antique Mall.
Gail passed on Thursday, October 5th, after complications following open heart surgery at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, MO. He will be greatly missed by many people, especially his family, wife Sandy, Kristi, Brian, Brad, and his three daughters and their families; Elizabeth and Jordan, Audrey, Eileen, and soon to be baby boy, Katie and Daniel, Bentley, Ava, and Kara.
