Gale Carla Uitti Schultz Carroll Kahn
(April 3, 1944 to March 29, 2024)
Gale was born to Jerrie and Arne Uitti in the Chicago area, She had a very special bond with her Noni(Grandma) Carla Olsen Bauer. She and her younger sister, Chris, had an active and adventurous youth in Glen Ellyn. Gale discovered her "happy place" at a horse barn which led to riding, grooming, showing, training and teaching. She found independence and self confidence at the stables. After graduating from Glenbard West H.S. in 1961 she attended Ripon College, where she was voted "Miss Lovely Legs" and acted with fellow student Harrison Ford in the "Three Penny Opera." She transferred to Elmhurst College, making it possible to continue with her love of horses and to show her 5 gaited horse in the Chicago area. She married Dan Schultz, graduated from Elmhurst College and moved to
Arlington , Va, where they had a daughter, Amanda. In 1969, she and her daughter moved to Tucson, Az, where she became an adventurous hippie with her sister Chris, now ex- husband Al and his brother Richard Carroll. They built a fine arts foundry business and worked with such artists as Sheridan Oman, Bill Zivic and Ted Degrazia. She and Richard married, he adopted Amanda, they built a house and had a son, Josh. Though their marriage did not last they continued to raise their children and had an ongoing friendship. She had dreamed of a better life for herself and her children and returned to the UofA to pursue her PhD. She reached her goal and became a practicing outpatient clinical psychologist.
Gale was blessed to have 36+ years with her soulmate, Marvin Kahn. Their life was filled with the joy of travelling the world, living in the desert and watching their families grow. Gale was able to take her children and grandchildren on many vacations that always involved an ocean and snorkeling. Able to be a very involved Gigi(grandma) and assist her daughter's family in Colorado Springs with after school and summer care, while still working part time at Cedar Springs. She loved being the grandma available for them and their friends.
Life slowed down as she and Marv travelled between their Colorado Springs and Tucson homes. She took up quilting and coloring books. They loved walking and finding and indulging in the best bakeries. Gale and their dog Coal, provided loving care to Marv until his death. She lived her final years in Colorado Springs with the assistance of daughter and family. She never recovered from the loss of her soulmate, though she tried. She left this world struggling with dementia and illness, her faithful dog Coal and her daughter by her side.
Gale leaves behind her children Amanda Carroll-Doughty(husband JIm) and Josh Carroll(wife Daphne) and her grandchildren Megan and Andy Doughty, Cameron and Chloe Carroll, sister Chris Pablo(husband Clifford) niece Katrina, nephews Mathew and Chester and her mother Jerrie Uitti. Also leaves Marv's son David and wife Carol and their son Nate and his family who were very present in her life. She is preceded in death by her father Arne , her nephew Tyler Pablo and her beloved husband Marvin Kahn. Her love of life, sense of adventure and amazing independence will go on in us all.
Ashes will be spread in Tucson and at a beach together with Marv again.
