Galer Winthrop "Bo" Beed

Dr. Beed was my machine shop instructor at CWU. In addition to being very knowledgeable and encouraging my curiosity, he had a great sense of humor. He treated his students like adults and we respected him for it. I still have the small steam engine he help me build for my senior project. I graduated in 1981 as an Industrial Arts Teacher, but ended up as an R&D toolmaker. After 30 years, I am retiring this summer and were it not for Dr. Beed and the skills he fostered in me, I might have chosen a less challenging and fulfilling career. His legacy lives on in all his students he so mentored.

BO WAS A DEAR FRIEND AND A TRUE CENTRAL SUPPORTER. I APPRECIATED ALL HE DID TO MAKE THE CLASS TREE PROJECT SO SUCCESSFUL . ALSO THE HELP HE GAVE ME ON THE PROJECTS FOR THE CWU CENTENNIAL. GOD BLESS HIS FAMILY. GAIL K. JONES RET. CWU ADMN.

my father worked 42 years in a foundry and i know they are in heaven hanging out talking about every aspect of the foundry life.most likely munchin on a slice of pizza from figaro's.God bless you my friend.

Dear Warren & Rick,
We are so sorry to read of Bo's passing. We remember him with great affection and warmth and we will miss him very much. We know this is a difficult loss - please know we are praying for your families and are confident that we will see him once again.

On the first day of class, Dr. Beed said to me, YOU’RE -LATE! Take a seat and take off your damn hat. Ironically that was the start of a 16 old friendship which included many lessons in the class room as well as in life. Bo Beed was not only a great professor; he was a mentor in life skills and a wonderful friend. I thank God for the time spent with the big guy.

Warren i never had the pleasure of meeting your father but i feel like i know him from talking to you.He is in heaven right know teaching a class how to build a furnace.I can see him and my father hanging out talking endlessly about furnaces,building patterns and casting them.my dad retired after 42 years working the foundry.God bless you and your family warren.

I'm so so sorry for your loss. I lost my mother almost 13yrs ago and it still feels like yesterday. It's hard to know what to say to people in times like this. Sometimes no matter what someone says doesn't make it any better. I just want you & your family to know that I'm thinking of you and sharing in your loss. Just know that he no longer is suffering and that he's in a much better place now. He's just waiting to be together with his family/friends again soemday. God bless you and your family/friends in this difficult time. May God be with you always!!!

I loved your father! He was so kind to me and such a great wit. He was direct and I liked that too. I feel so fortunate to have had some wise guidance from him over the years. I am sad to know he is gone but know that he is in a better place and one day you all will be together again. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your families.

Remember great times and have such fond memories of Bo.We had some crazy times and he was a big part of our Bible study.

Bo has contributed to the metal casting community for over 35 years. He was instrumental in supporting many of the traditional "shop classes" in metal casting. His professionalism in sharing, encouraging, and supporting small school foundry programs has exposed thousands of students to the art and science of metal casting.
Bo was a great friend, he invited us to his home the day before the "Pattern Swaps", and provided great breakfasts the day of the swap. The expression "they broke the mold after he was born" is a true testament to the life and career of a great man. To his family, I hope the pain and loss you are experiencing is tempered by knowing there are great memories Bo created for all of us, and his legacy continues in the industrial careers of those he touched.
