Children, you were so blessed to have such a wonderful father. I knew Jane and she was a wonderful teacher and person. Our prayers go out to each of you and pray that God will surround you with love as he makes this easier to handle as you remember all the good things he did. It doesn't get better -but with God's help it gets easier. I speak from experience. God bless you all

I was introduced to Mr Murray in the 90s when I worked at the Central (Bryan) YMCA as Swim Team Director by our Executive Director, Nancy Calkins. He was a frequent lap swimmer, and greeted everyone with a smile or hug. He shared with me that he was the demonstrator in the old Red Cross Lifesaving handbook, and that the photos had been taken in Florida when he was a young man. I still have a copy from I first became a lifeguard in the 70s, and brought it in to share with YMCA members and staff. He was such a pleasant gentleman!

I have very fond memories of Garland, first as our phys. ed. teacher and coach at Central Junior High School immediately after WWII, and then as volunteer unpaid coach of our swimming team at Greensboro (now Grimsley) High School. He was a fine man, a credit to the human race, and he will be missed. My thoughts are with his family at this sad time.

I worked for Garland many years ago at Girl Scout Camp sponsored by the Red Cross. Whenever I saw him even years later, I was greated with a smile and a hug. He was a great inspiration to me and a tribute to his Lord by the way he lived his life. .

OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU. GARLAND WAS ONE OF THE FINEST MEN THAT I HAVE EVER MET. I KNEW HIM THROUGH THE CHURCH OF THE COVENANT AND THROUGH TAKING SR. LIFE SAVING AND W.S.I. WITH THE RED CROSS, AS WELL AS CPR. HIS LOVE AND SUPPORT THAT HE SHOWED TO HIS FAMILY WAS INCREDIBLE. HE WILL BE MISSED BY ALL THAT KNEW HIM. SINCERELY, RON & BECKY HARTSOOK

I have many very fond memories of Mr. Murray over the years. He taught me how to swim at Oakhurst Swimming pool in the early 1950's and I took Lifesaving courses from him at Lindley Pool during the same decade. His service to the citizens and Greensboro community will be long remembered.
