Garnett Salmon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 30, 2002.
Garnett A. Salmon, 85, Creighton, MO, passed away Friday, September 27, 2002, at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital, Clinton, MO. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 1, 2002, at Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, MO; burial in Grant Cemetery, Creighton, MO. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, September 30, at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Twin Lakes Hospice, Clinton, MO. Mr. Salmon was born April 7, 1917, in Quick City, MO, the oldest of seven children born to Jacob Geoffrey and Ada May (Gamblin) Salmon. The Salmon family were farmers and lived in several places in Missouri and also lived in California for a short time. On November 2, 1940, Garnett married Helen Peery in Buffalo, MO. Upon their marriage, they began their life together on a farm north of Creighton. In 1945, their only child, GA, was born. Garnett was very active in the community and was proving to be a successful farmer. He was a charter member of the Creighton Lions Club, served on the Creighton School Board, served on the board of the Office of Economic Development for this area, and served on the Henry County ASCS County Community for over 20 years. He had a keen interest in politics and worked faithfully for his political party. He enjoyed exotic animals and it was a pleasure to him to have visitors enjoy his animals. He was well known at local coffee shops and most people knew him as someone who had a story to share and also some good advice available. He was happiest when he was visiting with his friends at the local coffee shops. Garnett is survived by his wife, Helen, of the home; his son, GA, and three grandsons, Terry, Travis and Tim; a brother, Gerald Salmon of Clinton, MO; two sisters, Maxine Crooks and Ruth Bowman, both of Independence, MO; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. (Arrangements: Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, MO, 816862-6345)

Dear Helen, G.A., Joyce, Terry, Tim and Travis: We are saddened to learn of the passing of Garnett. Kay and I offer our sincere condolences. We will always remember the close association and respect we have shared and the many times Garnett took time out of his busy schedule and called or brought someone to my office who needed help. Your husband, father and grandfather was truly a great American and we are all better for his many acts of kindness. Senator Harold L. Caskey
