Dear Family of Garry Mendez,I was so sorry to hear of the wonderful and special Gary s passing.We were classmates at Clinton School and Poughkeepsie High School and as a member of the Catharine Street Community Center Board I had the pleasure of presenting Gary with our Martin Luther King Community Award some years ago. My condolences to the Mendez family. I met Garry while in a Fellowship program at University of Illinois at Chicago. Garry demonstrated a level of intellect and compassion for social justice that made me proud to be in his company. A great spirit and great soul. Thank you for sharing him with us. May his work continue to produce the gifts he so generously share and passion and zest. I will never forget his laugh.
