NELSON, Garry William
August 12, 1935 - Cadillac, SK
November 10, 2016 - Calgary, AB
Garry William Nelson beloved husband of Marilyn of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at the age of 81 years. Garry was a man known for his integrity, loyalty, hard work and commitment. In 1962, following in his father's footsteps, Garry joined Western Gypsum (Westroc). Over the next thirty-eight years, he blazed a trail in the building materials industry, joining Winroc in 1979, where he was an integral part of the leadership team until his retirement in 2000. Garry loved music, and in 1957, he was one of the founding members of the original Yardbird Suite located on Whyte Avenue in Edmonton, where he played both the trumpet and bass. He also loved cars and had many memorable vehicles over his lifetime, but none more memorable than his purple Plymouth Prowler. For those who knew him, they will remember Garry as a man with impeccable style and a great sense of humour, but most of all, Garry will be remembered for his love of family and friends as that was what really mattered most to him. Garry is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Marilyn; daughter and son- in-law Sheri and Randy; son and daughter-in- law Myles and Stacey; seven grandchildren, Jaime (Daniel), Jordan, Parry, Macs, Grady, Taylor, Josh; three great-grandchildren, Abbie, Olliver, and Elliott; and sister Bobbie Lewis and family. Garry will also be missed by Marilyn's four brothers and their families. He was predeceased by his father Harry; his mother Jennie; brother-in-law Bill Lewis; father-in-law Harold Smith; and mother-in-law Dorothy Smith. Garry will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of the donor's choice. Special thanks to Southwood Hospice for their kindness, caring and support. In living memory of Garry Nelson, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.

It is with great sadness we learned of Gary's passing. He was a good friend and neighbour for many years. His sense of humour was infectious and he loved to tease all of us over the fence for years as neighbours and when we'd visit after we moved away. Marilyn, Sheri, Myles and your families and extended families will miss him beyond words. You will be in our thoughts and hearts as you remember and share all your memories. He loved his cars and like them he was a classic. Remembering him with love. Dave, Terri Jen and Jeff Bickell

Sending our deepest condolences to Marilyn, Myles and Sherry. Fondly remember him as our neighbour and always loved going over to the house to see new additions to the collections. I remember the day he brought home his purple prowler. Hugs to the family

Well old friend the time has come to say so long or hasta luego, we had many enjoyable years of challenging the building supply markets together as friends and business associates with many a laugh along the way.
Since you're there first I know you'll straighten the place out, if any straightening is required, to make it easier for the rest of us who have cared for you over these many years when we arrive.
You will be with us always, good buddy.
Mike.
Mr. N,
I will miss your sense of humour and all the great times we enjoyed travelling with you and Marilyn and particularly in New Orleans to celebrate many of your Anniversaries.
You will always be in our thoughts.
Monica
