Evans - Mr. Garry Wayne Peloquin, beloved husband of Dorthe Peloquin, entered into rest on Friday, February 13, 2026 at his residence.

The family will receive friends at Wesley United Methodist Church on Thursday, February 19, 2026 starting at 1:00 PM. The funeral service will start at 2:30 with Rev. Greg Porterfield officiating. A private burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park.

Wayne was born in Welsh, Louisiana to Lud and Dorlene Peloquin. In 1955, like many young men of his generation, he joined the United States military and served three years in the army. After fulfilling his military service, he concentrated on his education and career. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Alabama in 1964, and a Master of Science in Health Planning and Administration from the University of Cincinnati in 1986. He was chief Radiological technologist at Baptist Hospital in Memphis from 1965 until 1966, when he became the administrator at Magnolia Haven in Tuskegee. He left there in 1969, and the remainder of his career was spent serving the public as a hospital administrator. He worked at Macon County Hospital and North Alabama Hospital in Russellville, Alabama until 1974. It was in that year that he moved his family to Georgia. He was named president of Humana Hospital in Augusta and held that position from 1974 until 1994, when he retired. Even after retirement, he found time to serve as Interim president of both Master Healthcare Insurance and Tenet Healthcare Corporation.

His career was defined not only by achievement, but by integrity, leadership, and unwavering service to others. Over the years, he garnered special recognition many times, including Humana Executive of the Year, three-time recipient of the Humana Award for outstanding Accomplishments, three-time recipient of the Humana Award for Continuing Excellence as well as the Doctors Hospital Medical Staff Award of Appreciation for both 10 and 20 years of service. He was also involved with the Boy Scouts of America, where he acquired the Silver Beaver Award and was bestowed the William Spurgeon Award, which is the highest recognition for individuals and organizations contributing significant leadership to the Explorer Program. He was the recipient of the Paul Harris Award presented by the Rotary Club of America and was also presented the Civil Defense Award by the governor of Alabama. Wayne was responsible for founding the local chapter of the Alabama Alumni Association.

In addition to his wife, Dorthe, he is survived by his sons, Garry Lud Peloquin and Jerry Wayne Peloquin (Allyson), his grandchildren, Jacob and Abigail Peloquin and his sister, Wyondia Hill (DeWayne). He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Margaret Ann "Peggy" Peloquin.

Pallbearers will be Jacob Peloquin, Joey Ingram, Wade Ingram, DeWayne Hill, Gary Grant and Hunter Slaton. Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Sheen, Lee Gray and Ernest "Sonny" Hornsby.

The family would like to recognize his oncologist, Dr. Brent H. Limbaugh and his family physician, Dr. Daniel Boone for their exceptional care.

Gary and Jerry,
There are not words to say how sorry I am for the loss of your Dad! I loved him and your mom so much and remember all the fun times in Tuskegee and at the lakehouse on Lake Martin. He was always so sweet and kind and I thought he was so cool! Even with all the pranks he played on Daddy after Alabama beat Auburn, and I remember the black wreaths that were on the door of the drugstore when Al would win, which was alot during the Bryant era. And the time he put a rubber buzzard in a shoebox one year whenAU lost! I was really mad about that one! what a great man. My prayers are with all the family and thankful we will see all our loved ones again one day Love yall, Debbie J

Papa Wayne was like a father to me when I was young and they were living in Tuskegee. He took me everywhere with Garry and Jerry, taught me to ski, drive a boat, and treated me like his child. He will be sorely missed- loved that man that called me WT.

I´ve known Wayne since I was a wee boy in Tuskegee, his twins Garry & Jerry became some of my best friends. Wayne had a unique way of settling the twins differences in the back yard. He has always been very kind and thoughtful over the years, always interested in how things were going in my life and always encouraging. I will miss him, my wife and kids will too. He was truly a great man. We love you Wayne.

Wayne was a good friend to all of us. He was that guy who was on the look out for something to do good for someone. That is a real blessing to all those in his proximity. He was in the business of preserving lives and helping others. Wayne was warm and friendly all the time. I am genuinely sad at this loss. When I have seen him recently he seemed to be living well. Along with his wonderful wife, they made us all better. God Speed to you Wayne. Condolences to his loved ones and close friends.
