Garry S. "Bud" Thomas died peacefully surrounded by his family on March 2, 2016. He was born is SLC, Utah on September 21, 1935 to John Jay Thomas and Winifred Rose Kirkham. He retired from Union Pacific Railroad. Garry loved the Utah Jazz and the University of Utah. Survived by his daughters Paula (Don) Turpin and Debbie Malin, son Gary (Lori) Thomas, 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, sisters Emma, Iris and Cleo and special friend Trudy Kelly.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 7, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) in Sandy with a viewing from 12:30-1:30 p.m. prior to services.

I was so surprised to hear of your passing. Bud was such a good friend to Larry and I for so many years. The memories of our times together have never been forgotten. It is amazing the very day of your funeral is the day that Larry passed. I am sure the two of you are on your final train ride to heaven together. Engineer and Conductor as always.

Sorry to hear of Bud's passing. He was a great friend and fellow worker on the Western Pacific RR. Had lots of wonderful times with Bud on and off the Railroad. We'll miss him . 1BUD4U

Bud was a great Elk and a wonderful friend. He would help anyone who needed assistance, even if they didn't ask. He would just know that his help was needed.

Sad is the news as we learn of cousin Garry S Thomas' death. Every passage from the KIrkham/Thomas families touch us all, and in some measure the world we know. Those of us more distant wish you to know, who are nearer, who will daily see the empty place at the table or the silence when wanting to greet him, that we hold you near to our hearts and spirits as you grieve, and will even as long.
