My condolences to Gary's family. Having grown up in Port Alice I experienced many a "shenanigans" from the Bartrim boys. My mom was best friends with Bill and Nancy. As kids we always looked forward to when Bill's brothers and families would visit. Always an exciting time and lots of laughter. The Bartrims have been part of the foundation of Port Alice's community spirit. It saddens me to hear of Gary's passing. Being the husband and father he was, I am sure that his legacy of kindness and joy of life will be passed on through his children and the rest of the family. Blessings of great memories and comfort to you all.

I was a little older than Gary and as things go when there is an age difference of more than a couple of years, we didn't have much to do with each other, even though he just lived down the street. I do have this picture in my mind of a 1950s Gary with his collar up , sleeves rolled up and his hair in a duck tail! It wasn't until we started having the lunches that I got to know him. What a story teller! And his memory of things about Port Alice!
I was impressed with all he'd done in the intervening years and was still doing. A real inspiration.
I'm sorry that he's no longer with us, but he will be remembered as I'm sure you will remember him, for the fascinating person he was. The world is a little the lesser with his death. My condolences to his family and too all those who had the pleasure of his company.

I'm so sorry to hear this news Teresa and family. Gary was born about 6 weeks before my sister Kathryn and they grew up together with a very close group of friends in Port Alice. I was born 10 years later and grew up with Gary's nieces...in such a small community we were all connected one way or another. Many thanks to Teresa for requesting that friends call Gary to chat when he was first diagnosed. He and I had such a great long talk at that time and I learned more about him, his life and his love for his family. He was obviously first and foremost a deeply committed husband and father and so, so proud of the children he and Teresa raised....there is no greater, fulfilling accomplishment or achievement in life and I know that many great memories will live on in your hearts and his legacy will live on in his family. Sending you all love as you navigate this difficult time.

I’m so sorry to read this but truly happy to have met him. He would come into the office and tell use his stories of his shenanigans and it was always a pleasure! His smile was infectious! I was to reiterate that he really loved his wife Teresa. He always talked about her! Always would say just how amazing she was. I opened that hearing clinic in Gibsons and used to help him with his hearing. Rest in paradise sir and my condolences to the family.
