Here it is august 2018 and I just found out about Gary. A big shock! I used to interview him on my Las Vegas radio show. When we were in LA Gary used to treat us at the restaurant. Super guy so generous. It was an honor to have known him.

Gary Canter, it's your day - January 14th - National Hot Pastrami Day. No one had more PRIDE in cured meats than you! This photo is Gary with Tommy Lasorda holding a plate of pastrami hand sliced and prepared especially for him.

R.I.P. Canter's will never be the same without your enthusiasm, energy, kibitzing and passion for carrying on your grandparents legacy! We ALL miss and LOVE you every day!

Sincere condolences to the entire Canter family for their loss. Never had the pleasure of meeting Gary personally, yet my family has been eating at Canter's for generations. I was raised just a few blocks from Canter's and we shared many family meals there and countless nights at the Kibitz Room with my friends in my youth. This is a true loss for our treasured Fairfax community. Sure hope you are feeding your friends in heaven your famous corned beef and pastrami sandwiches and bakery goods.

Buddy Buddy, just heard the devastating news. Canter's will never be the same without you. You always took the time to serve us the best pastrami sandwiches we've ever eaten. Your generosity and spirit will be forever missed. Pete

Gary Canter was the kindest most generous man my wife and I have ever met. He always greeted us with a smile, shared stories in the way only he could and his heart was as big as any we have ever met. Canter's will never be the same without his larger than life personality and love of his family's business. We were shocked and saddened when we learned of his passing. R.I.P Buddy Buddy!

Our deepest condolences to Gary's family. We had the pleasure to know Gary when he had an extended stay in Las Vegas to open Canters in Tivoli Village. He would always pull up a chair and we would share stories as if we had all known each other for years. His outgoing style and vivacious sense of life will forever be embedded in our fond memories of him.

He will be deeply missed but am certain is spirit will live on,

I will cherish the memories going back to elementary school, carthay circle, and the times after when we would run into eachother and both try to catch up on family and life since then.

Our condolences to the entire Canter family.
Gary was a wonderful man. He was kind, generous, always cheerful even when stressed, and always found time to talk. We would discuss all sorts of issues, be it current or way back in the past.
We knew Gary at Bancroft Jr. High and Fairfax high in the 70's. We have been acquaintances for over 40 years.
Every time we would go to breakfast, we looked forward to talk to Gary and every time he was excited about something going on in his life. He was always quick to surprise us with a plate of rugelach.
He will surely be missed by many and especially by us.
Sincerely,
David Wolman and Wendy Wintrob

I will never forget my buddy buddy.
He was such a dear friend with such a large heart the most generous person I have ever met.
Canter's and Fairfax will never be the same without him.
I spent almost every Saturday am having breakfast with him , and left with the biggest smile on my face every week. I was blessed to have him hug me and tell me he loved me last Saturday . My condolences to the entire family, he was a bright light that was extinguished way too soon.

My Dear Traci, You are now invited into a widow's club that never wants new members! My late husband Robert Goldman died at age 54 the same quick way. When the time is right, if ever, and you need someone to talk with with similar experiences, just whistle. May you only have sweet memories! My heart goes out to you and your family. Gary and I were friends for many years . One of my
Fondest memories is my family would eat at
Canters on Fairfax every Sunday morning . As soon
As We sat down he always came over to our table
Smiling saying hello buddy buddy and bringing over
Pastries and cookies for my two little nephews .
Gary brought joy and happiness to so many . Very few
People today go out of their way to help someone
Or make someone happy . This is why Gary Canter
Was so special. My thoughts and prayers are with
His beautiful family and everyone who met this gem
Of a man
