Gary Eilers Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 8, 2019.
Gary Eilers entered into eternal life on March 7, 2019. Born April 27, 1950 in Baytown, Texas and raised in Channelview, he was the youngest of five sons to Henry and Ola Eilers. He graduated as valedictorian from Channelview High School and completed his studies in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Houston in 1973. Gary worked as a pharmacist for 38 years at Houston Northwest Medical Center, a majority of the time serving as the Director of the Pharmacy, before retiring in the Fall of 2011.

It was in his early years at HNMC that he met a nurse, Elaine, who would be his wife of 43 years and who also devoted over 40 years of service to the same hospital. Together, they raised three children, creating a lifetime of memories among the exciting and the mundane. When he'd seen his children through to adulthood, Gary became the most beloved Pop-E to 16 grandchildren, aged 14 to 1. Each grandchild had a special bond with him, and we are grateful for all the memories they will keep. He grew to embrace his Catholic faith and sought to understand it more deeply as a longtime parishioner of St. James Catholic Church. Gary was able to enjoy retirement with Elaine at their lake house in Trinity, on trips to Alaska, the Caribbean, parts of Europe and frequently visiting their children and grandchildren in Spring and Fredericksburg, Texas and Lexington, Kentucky.

He took an interest in the Eilers family genealogy and after years of research, was recently accepted into The Sons of the Republic of Texas, whose members are direct lineal descendants of those that settled the Republic of Texas prior to February 19, 1846, when Texas merged with the United States as the 28th state. Gary was creative, unique, funny, dependable, unassuming. He was a brilliant man, who never tired of learning more. He enjoyed being outside, growing impatiens and caladiums, brewing turmeric and ginger tea, trivia, Jeopardy, Scrabble and the like, and especially "42". He could make the simplest times the most fun and was loved as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.

Gary was preceded in rest by his parents Henry and Ola, and brothers Melvin and Jerry. He leaves behind his wife Elaine, their daughter Kristy (Brian), sons Scott (Tricia) and Steven (Julie) and grandchildren Benjamin, Elliott, Joshua, Addison, Brody, Claire, Oliver, Brayden, Emma, Rosalie, Brynlie, Bradley, Molly, Tobias, Brylynn, and Henry, and brothers Leslie and Tom, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Visitation and Service will be at Calvary Hill Funeral Home from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm on March 10, 2019 (21723 Aldine Westfield Rd, Humble, Texas), and a Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. James Catholic Church at 11:00 am on March 11, 2019 (22800 Aldine Westfield Rd, Spring, Texas) followed by burial and a reception at Calvary Hill.
