I saw this quote from Henry Adams the other day and it made me think of Dad:

"A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops."

I am lucky to have known Gary as his student, his assistant coach and friend.

He did a lot for me. In my formidable years he was a sounding board that helped me make the best life decisions.

After his retirement I took over his role as HC at Lakeport Football - I felt insignificant stepping into his giant shoes! He generously continued to support us - he was far enough away so we did not feel that we were in his shadow but he was still close enough to help us when we needed his advice / perspective. That was tremendously gracious of both him and Walt. I will never forget that.

To his family thankyou for sharing Gary with us. My heart bleeds with yours. Please know that Gary was cherished by so many of us. Words cannot describe the impact he gad on many of us.

He continues to be a role model for me - I hope I can have a positive impact on a fraction of student athletes he did.

Gary will be missed!

hey Coach...thanks for all of the great times back then at Lakeport. In those first years we didn't win a lot of games but we sure learned a lot. Thanks for teaching us teamwork and commitment.

Our condolences to Mary Ann and the England family. As a long time resident of Chautauqua, Gary was truly a gentleman , a great neighbour, and a friend. I will miss him walking through the neighbourhood and having those short but friendly chats.

Such sad news to hear of Gary´s passing. Respected by all who knew him over the many years at Lakeport and elsewhere. Once a Laker Always a Laker! He became a great friend over breakfasts at Marcel´s with John, Bob and the gang, a "travel advisor " on my trip to Newfoundland and proud fellow resident of Niagara on the Lake. My sympathy to Terry and all the family.

I am one of many people who Coach inspired. He was a mentor and a friend, a central figure in my life. Coach exemplified the words - responsibility, commitment, effort, perseverance, courage, loyalty and service - values that anchor my life today.

My condolences to Gary's family and friends. He is gone but will always be with us.
