Gary Frields

Gary and I had a relationship that only he and I could appreciate...It was based on mutual disrespect; all in fun of course. We enjoyed playfully picking on each other as he said this was how his family showed their love for each other and it was how my family showed their love. When Gary learned of my health issues, in 2009? he drove his new sports car down to Houston and foolishly let me drive wherein I ground those poor gears into scrap metal..Oh yes and of course we went to see Tamara's beautiful art on display. Gary will always be my crazy friend, "the artist". Enjoy all the colors in heaven that are reported not to be on this earth...Love ya, Gary...your crazy friend Anna.

Gary was one of the first people I met in Nacogdoches, almost 6 years ago. We didn't keep in touch over the years, but I'll never forget his hospitality: chatting with him over a big bowl of cherries on his porch, watching the massive catfish lurking beneath his pier rise to the surface to eat dog food pellets he'd scattered there. :) Gary seemed like a really great guy--rest in peace. May God be with his family and friends during this time of grieving.

TO GARY'S FAMILY, FRIENDS AND STUDENTS:
I, and as others have expressed, cherish the time with Gary as students at University High School as well as our meet-ups at "Trojan" alumni reunions. But as is the case for all of UHS's "Trojans" - although the adventures of our earthly Odyssey end, our Epic continues in the hereafter where we will all be reunited.

I will always treasure the humor and zest for life that Gary always exhibited. He was a constant joy and representation of ongoing positive energy. Even though I have not had a chance to connect with him since the last reunion I attended, I will always think of him as a true friend. In my timeline, I'll remember the great trip he and my mother took in the 60's to the Mexican Aztec locations for the study of art while an undergraduate at Baylor. Although seeing you was only occasional at family events, I cherish the times we had together in younger days.

Ed - I never knew your brother, but he looks like such a fun-loving person. What a legacy he's left! I'm keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Brothers Ed and Roy Frields, Soul Mate Mrs. Tamara Robertson Frields and genuine lovers of the artistic-athletic union, thank you for sharing the genuis of Gary Q. Frields with an admiring public that can only appreciate his works, imitate his original movement and wonder "how did he do it?" Gary Q. Frields first caught my attention when he dismounted from his sports car and walked pass his yard sculpture. From then (2007) on, nobody had to tell me that he was an Art Professor because it was clearly evident that he represented art itself. The man is gone, but the artist still lives on in the minds and the hands of the students of Gary Frields. All East Texas art lovers share your loss, and may Gary rest in artistic peace.
