January 27, 1955-December 15, 2023

Gary was taken from us much too soon, but he will always continue to live with love in our hearts.

Gary was born in Dayton, Ohio. While he was still quite young, his family moved to the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles. After grade school he attended Cleveland High School. Before he graduated, the family moved to San Diego where he attended Patrick Henry High School. He then graduated from San Diego State University. Gary studied Business and Finance at SDSU and began his working career upon graduation. He worked for several professional financial institutions through the years. He cared deeply about his clients, worked very hard, and was very successful in his career as a registered financial professional, most recently with LPL Financial LLC.

Gary was an ardent water sport and mountain enthusiast. He enjoyed surfing, river rafting, kite boarding, fishing, mountain backpacking and hiking. He would often take his family on outdoor adventure trips, and for several years he hosted special trips for the entire family as his Christmas gift. Gary was a supporter of various conservancy groups. Maintaining nature's waterways and mountains were very important to him. In his later years, he enjoyed many ocean cruises and fishing excursions with his wife, Wan, and visits to her native Thailand. Gary and Wan were married for 23 years.

Gary passed after an extended hospital stay upon suffering a seizure, which complicated his other underlying medical conditions. Even with his physical challenges, he still maintained a positive attitude and fought hard to regain his physical strength.

Gary is survived by his wife, Wirakan (Wan), her daughter Virinya (Vee), one sister, Barbara, three brothers, Raymond, Mark, and Michael, and by many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life is being planned for family and friends in a location near his beloved ocean, where he enjoyed watching the sunset every evening.

I just saw this obituary on Gary. We met at Silverstand Beach, Oxnard, CA when Gary and his friends rented a beach house for the summer after high school graduation. Sending condolences to his family. May you rest in peace Gary. I´ll always cherish our memories.

Gary remains in my memory as a young boy totally capable of climbing any doorway, tree or obstacle that no one would ever consider climbing.

Always quietly attentive to his surroundings but managing to be a part of our family shenanigans. I say family because Gary and all the Hasenstab are family, in the deepest, dearest sense.

How can someome who seemed the epitome of health and strength be taken from us.

I know you are now traversing all the heavenly terrains, healthy and whole.

In Love,
Marilyn Martinez Giovannetti
