I knew Gary back in Toledo, he was at UT and I was still in high school. A group of us hung around together at Toledo Yacht Club, mainly my sister Lynne and I and a group of guys. But there are very fond memories and many laughs. I'm so sorry for you loss Jan. Gary was a sweet and a great guy then, and sounds like he has continued, not surprisingly, be the same! I must admit I had a crush on him and we corresponded briefly after he moved to Wisconsin. It brought a smile to my face, because he always closed his letters with "Well Barb..." I know he will be sorely missed. I just found his obituary. Sorry this is so after the fact, but wanted you to know that he was always special. God's love and Blessings. What sad news to learn of Gary's passing. I first met Gary in the early 1960's through WTSOA, and he was a fixture at many of the sports car club events. One of my fondest memories is that, even though his real birthday was November 25, it seemed whenever the group would get together we would sing "Happy Birthday" to Gary. I also remember one of the many times we all were at Lakeland College, where we stayed while working the races at Road America, we built a wall of empty beer cans that was taller than Gary. I don't remember a time when Gary did not have a smile on his face. The last time I saw him was when I made a trip from Maryland back to Milwaukee in the summer of 1990. Gary will sorely be missed. He was definitely one of a kind. My thoughts and prayers are with Jan and their family.

I am pleased to have known Gary for years, but not until 2006 did we spend meaningful time together. That was the year he was so kind as to volunteer his SUV to trailer Dick Eisenmann's Cooper Formula Junior out to Monterey, California. We met up there with Todd and Bob Flemming and Hamp Miller. 4,000 miles there and back I got to know him well and and value his friendship going forward. Sorry to hear of his passing, God Bless to family and friends.
