Gary helped with a knee injury my senior year at Jefferson High School. I proceeded to play basketball at Skyline college where Gary helped me overcome not only an injury but inspired me to follow in his footsteps in becoming a certified athletic trainer. I cannot express how important Gary influenced me in caring for injured athletes physical injuries but also overcoming the mental strain of getting back onto the playing field. His legacy will always be in my heart.

I missed leaving a wish for your birthday, even though you were on my mind that day. The world is a different place right now, but you would be making everyone laugh if you were here. Your grandson would be so in love with you, no doubt. Please know you will still live on in our minds and in the minds of your future family...Happy Birthday Gary.

Gary was my mentor as I tore my right medial meniscus in high school my senior year. He was able to tape me up in order to play in my final high school playoff game at Skyline College where I attended the next two years . Playing basketball and being a member of Skyline Colleges first state championship team. His patience and care eventually led me to a career in Athletic Training where I have been taking care of injuries for the past forty years. His devotion to his clients was unparalleled. I have been blessed in my life because of Gary.

Sorry to hear of Gary's passing. Good friend at SSFHS. Attended CSM together. When I came back from Vietnam Nam we got together he was at San Jose State playing soccer. I watch him play in several matches. They made the NCAA final, saw several matches at Stanford. Gary was a very caring person. I would see him when he had the clinic in Brentwood in SSF.

Gary was many things to many people. I have many fond memories of him that will stay with me always...the joy we shared at the birth of our daughters Bria & Amber and the gifts he gave to each of them, one the gift of healing others and the other the gift of surrounding others with pure joy...such a wonderful legacy.
At times I can still almost hear him shouting out in joyous anticipation "Let it happen Sea Captain!"
And last but certainly not least, I will always remember this, a coat. Gary always loved to give the gift of a coat. I think it meant a great deal to him to give someone a coat...a coat would keep you warm, it would surround you with his love and caring, it was something from him that could be with you when you wore it. Yes, a lovely coat that was given with love. To all of us who were lucky enough to receive a coat from him, we knew we were loved.
Joan, Bria, Amber, Nadessa & Yali I hope all the wonderful memories you have of Gary will give you comfort the rest of your lives, as the memories I have of him will do for me.

Gary is my wife's, Connie, first cousin. After decades of being out of touch, Gary and his wonderful wife Joan came to our house in Eureka and shared last Christmas with us. To say it was long overdue is an understatement. To say it was a heart-warming and memorable rendezvous only scratches the surface. Gary shared stories and updated family history that only he could being 12 years older than Connie. Many funny, some surprising and often times telling them with a tear in his eye. It was a sentimental and wonderful reunion. We will never forget that Christmas. He loved my wife's father who played a large and important role in Gary's childhood, so his stories were heartfelt. We also learned much about Gary's interesting life and what a fine man he was. He shared everything and in a short few days Gary was accepted as the brother my wife and her sisters never had. I know I will not forget Gary and I am certain my wife and her sisters will not either. It is bittersweet that he came back into their lives after so long and then was taken away so quickly but we so appreciate the little time we had and will be a part of Joan and Gary's daughters' lives hence forward. God bless you Gary - thank you for leaving the world a better place. We will miss you.
