I didn't know him very well outside his art studio. He was a great teacher and opened my eyes to the wonderful world of color. Before attending his art studio I was just a black and white artist. He showed me that in art anything is possible. I still use his teachings to this day. Gary Langdon was a genuinely amazing person.

I am so sorry to hear that Gary passed away, been trying to contact friends from the past and Gary and Kathy were special people.
My late wife Shirley passed away in 2015, heart attack, we both took oil painting from Kathy and really
enjoyed it.
Gary liked to give me a bad time about my painting, all in good fun. He said I didn't paint, I built my paintings.
I was a professional draftsman back then so I guess I was rather technical.
So both a note of sympathy as well as a long time passing hello to you Kathy.
God bless and take care.

Gary took me under his wing at JC Penny´s when I was 20 years old. I had just gotten married 3 months earlier and this was my first real job (working for my mother at her shop doesn´t count because I never got paid). He taught me how to decorate one window display which has helped me decorate stages for women´s retreats for 6 years. I took an oil painting class at Langdon Art studios which has helped me with my watercolor painting. I surprised him at The Door Art Gallery about ten years ago. I invited Gary and Kathy to Fish Camp and made her favorite, chili rellanos. I wanted to show him how far I´d come along (I´m 68 now) but was very surprised and saddened to see he passed away. When I worked with him at JC Penny´s I thought he was the coolest person I ever knew. He used to ride his motorcycle right into the building I remember one JCP Christmas party he gave away a $5 bottle of wine (that´s $30 in today´s money). He was NOT happy when he received a plastic shoe horn. He wanted his wine back. I wish I could tell him I turned my watercolor paintings into a Shutterfly book for my grandson. My heart aches. Blessings to you Kathy and to the rest of the family.

Sending heartfelt condolences to Gary´s family, friends and his many students. My mother, Louise Kemp was one of those students who spoke fondly of Gary and his classes over the years as she grew in her talent and her love of all venues of painting. My mother (Louise Kemp), recently passed of Alzheimer´s and her beautiful paintings are a true and long lasting treasure to our family. RIP Gary and know your generous heart and talent lives on and will always be a special to our family. God bless!
