Gary "Matt" Matthew
Of Spring Arbor, MI went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at the age of 56. He is the son of Gary and Barbara (Griffus) Potter, born August 8, 1966. Matt is survived by his two children, Brittany Potter (Jake Walker), Brett Potter (Anna Campbell); his mother, Barbara Potter; brother, Bill Potter; and former spouse and friend, Heather Sanders. He was preceded in death by his father, Gary Potter. Matt was a graduate of Jackson High School and Spring Arbor University where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Education. While attending Spring Arbor University he was an All-American Shortstop for the baseball team. Matt went on to teach in the Jackson Public Schools for 19 years, then owned and operated G. Matthew Consulting for 10 years. Matt enjoyed golfing, baseball, and traveling. He loved to spend time with his family. Matt was a coach and mentor to many players and students. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A celebration of his life will be held at the Arbor Church, 120 E. Main St., Spring Arbor, MI on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 11:00am with Pastor Mark VanValin officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Arbor Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Matt Potter Memorial Golf Scholarship Fund.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 14, 2023 at the Watson Funeral Chapel in Jackson from 5:00-8:00pm and at the church on Saturday from 10:00am until the time of service.

Thanks to you I met Matt. I didn´t know him well, but I got a glimpse of his kind, gentle spirit and silly sense of humor side. I am so thankful he had such a wonderful friend in you these past very difficult several months. At times like these it is really all we can hope for, a living friend to care for us when Jesus is calling us home. God bless you for your love and hospitality for Matt.

Matt was such a positive guy to be around and was always spreading a joke here or a funny story that had you laughing for hours. I remember the first time I met Matt when I went to see my sister at Spring Arbor University- we went to Loud´s for ice cream. We had fun games of horse in the driveway or a round of golf and you always made it fun. You where a great mentor to so many kids and could always see how proud you where to your kids. Didn´t have to chance to see each other the last few years but you left a lasting presence with our family. Your probably coaching up in Heaven and I am sure your dad is right beside you
