Gary Shi

SHI-Dr. Gary Shi, aka Guo Guang Shi, most loved and admired husband, father, grandfather, and friend died September 14, 2025 in Huntington Beach, California. Gary started his higher education in 1954 at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, one of the most prestigious University in China, majoring in engineering. His ambition was abruptly interrupted by tuberculosis, a deadly disease at the time. During the laboring recovery, he made the determination of becoming a physician. In the fall of 1962, Gary graduated from Shanghai Medical School II and started his 30 years of medical profession. Specialized in cardiology, Gary cared for, cured many patients, and saved a lot of lives. Dr. Shi was such an intellect who had motivated so many young professionals in medicine. After his retirement, Dr. Shi immigrated to Southern California and continued as a cardiology consultant. His sense of humor, moderate manner, and deep humanity have impacted so many people. Dr. Shi's survivors include his wife Mary Zhang; daughter Ting Shi; son in-law Roger Yu; and two grandsons William S. Yu John S. Yu. A memorial service will be held at Heritage-Dilday on September 23, 2025 from 10am to 12pm.
