Gary Allen Shute, 54, died Friday, October 3, 2008, at his condominium in Oxford, Mississippi.
Gary was a computer programmer and software analyst who lived in California, West Virginia, and Arizona before moving back to Mississippi. Early in his career he was employed by NASA and wrote software for the space program. Most recently, he was employed by Wolters Kluwer Financial Services in Jackson, MS, as Senior Software Developer. He lived in Ridgeland, MS.
He grew up in Greenwood, MS and graduated from Greenwood High School in 1972, where he lettered three years in baseball and was in the Key Club and the National Honor Society. He was voted Exchange Club Boy of the Year 1972. He graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1976 with degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science.
Gary was a talented athlete who enjoyed playing sports and attending Ole Miss athletic events. He also loved to travel, and visited several foreign countries.
Survivors include: brother, Marvin Shute of Kyoto, Japan; sister, Ann Parzych of Bartlett, Tennessee; and nephew, Rich Parzych, of Tuscon, Arizona.
A memorial service will be held at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood, MS, Wednesday, October 8, 2008. Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm with the memorial service at 2:00 p.m.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Cade, Frank Odom, Jim Fraiser, George "Pat" Patterson, and Mike Slusarek.

I miss you

I only met Gary once, but I recently talked to him on several occasions (I'm sure more than he wanted) over work related issues. He listened, he willingly shared his perspective, and he could take ideas and make them work. And I know he had a soul. One that was taken away from us waaay too early.
