Dallas - LUBBOCK:AMARILLO:IRVING:
Gary "Sonny" Dan Davidson, Jr. Born October 14, 1956 in Lubbock, Texas to Gary Dan Davidson, Sr. and Jean Carolyn Williams. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1974-1975. He was in auto mechanics and men's choir.
Gary passed away on December 22, 2024 surrounded by those he loved just hours before. He loved football but he was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan, win or lose. He never missed a Cowboys game. That night the Cowboys were playing. He stayed with us through the whole game until he heard the Cowboys had won and just minutes after he took his last breath at 10:25 pm.
He was a self-taught computer programmer. He always loved tinkering with technology. He had a brilliant mind. So when Epsilon Corporation gave him a chance, he worked hard over his career and achieved the title of Senior Engineer, II. He programmed some of the electronic devices we use today. He valued the professional relationships and the friendships he made during his time there. He will always be indebted to Epsilon for his 25+ year career.
He met the love of his life, Michelle, 25+ years ago. They just celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary in December, 2024. Gary never really traveled or went on adventures much over the years, but he traveled to the Philippines later in life and met Michelle. That was when his love of traveling and going on adventures truly blossomed. They would travel to Harley parties on the weekend. They would take their RV on short trips. He loved to go to any destination that had a beach. When they got to their destination, he enjoyed renting a car and driving without a map. They would drive wherever the road would take them. He also enjoyed going to classic car shows all over the country. He decided since he was going to all of these classic car shows, maybe they should have something to enter in the shows. They bought a Green Apple Volkswagen VW bug. He dressed her up real nice, named her "Figgy" and took her all across the country. She never did win in her Class, which disappointed him. But as each show winded down, the final award was "Best In Show." Figgy won "Best In Show" eight times!
Gary loved his fur babies. When they lost their Havapoos dog named "Racer" after 15 years, Gary searched the Internet to find another Havapoos breed of dog. He found two brothers in Pennsylvania. He didn't want them separated, so he bought them both and shipped them to their home to surprise his wife. It was love at first sight! One was solid black who they named Guts and the other solid white they named Griffith. They miss Gary so much!
Gary's son Aaron was one of the only grandchildren who got to enjoy spending time with Gary's mom, Jean. Grandma Jean was an exceptional pianist. She never had a piano lesson. She couldn't read a note of music. She could listen to a song on the TV, on the radio or on a record, and she would play the song just as well or better. Aaron loved sitting on the piano bench beside her watching her play. One of the pictures Gary specifically asked to see during his last few days, was of his son sitting by his mom, Grandma Jean at the piano.
Gary loved bowling and bowled most of his adult life. When his daughter Kimi accepted a 4 year scholarship to Sam Houston State University on their first women's bowling team, he was beyond thrilled! He followed her and her team to their tournaments and bowling events throughout Kimi's four year college career. He kept up with the team even after she graduated. He got to watch her and her team win the National Championship for women's bowling in 2014. He was So proud of her, and over the moon thrilled of her and her team's accomplishments. He even posed for pictures with their National Championship women's bowling trophy. "This is heavy!" He was her biggest fan!
Gary was 11 years older than his sister Nancy. Growing up he used to call her his "little pest". She wanted to go and do everything with him. At 18, that wasn't a good look. One time she snuck into the back floorboard of his Monte Carlo when she knew he was going on a date. She must've fallen asleep, because a couple of hours later something woke her up. She popped up, looked over the seat, and said "gross!" as she saw her big brother kissing his date goodnight. She scared both of them. Pretty sure he didn't get a second date. Nancy always looked up to Gary. Over the years, little did she know he looked up to her. He kept a picture of her in her wedding dress on his desk at work for more than 25 years. She was always the one he would call when he needed advice or just someone to listen. He thought she was loyal, and reliable to him and the whole family when they needed her the most. He admired her for that! He thought she was brave, loyal, kind, trustworthy, and just a genuine person. They were Best Friends!
Gary was a generous man. He helped anyone who needed it as much as he could. He felt military soldiers and their families were not helped to the standard they were promised on their return after their military duty, so for him it was important to support Wounded Warrior Project as a way to thank them for their service.
Survivors include his beautiful bride, Michelle, two dogs, Guts, and Griffith, his sister, Nancy Smith of Amarillo, his son, Aaron Davidson of Fort Worth, and grandson, Logan, his daughter, Kimi Davidson-Rampone and husband, Cris of Dallas, and two corgi grand dogs, his Uncle Richard Williams, four nephews, a niece-in-law, and five great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his dad, Gary Dan Davidson Sr, his mom, Jean Carolyn Williams, his granddad, B. B. Williams, his mamaw, Marguerite H. Williams, and his uncles, Dan K. Williams, other great aunts and great uncles, and his Great Grandma, Big Mama.
