Gary Walrack Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 17, 2024.
Gary Chandler Walrack passed away at the age of 77 on March 4th, 2024. Gary was a natural entrepreneur, a cherished father, and an unforgettable friend who will forever be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering joie de vivre.

Born on November 1st, 1946 to Chandler and Ruth Walrack in Great Falls, Montana, Gary entered the world with a spark of curiosity and a zest for life that never faded. Even as a child, his entrepreneurial spirit was unmistakable. He developed a passion for sales and, as a young man, sold everything from pots and pans to motorcycles and jet-skis. Later in life, he established Chandler Communications and used his skills to develop relationships between the public and private sectors, building programs that benefited disabled and elderly individuals throughout Montana without public funding. Following his retirement from Chandler Communications, he formed Intellect Telecommunications Corporation and was preparing for a web-based launch at the time of his passing.

In his personal life, Gary was an avid world traveler who ran with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain, watched Formula One races in Monaco, and enjoyed holidays in France, Hawaii and Thailand. He had a flair for hospitality and a talent for bringing people of all walks of life together at his famous dinner parties, where the jazz music boomed through his home as the champagne bottle was sabered. Gary once led the Northern Montana Film Commission, which promoted northern Montana filming locations to the film industry at the Cannes Film Festival in France and the Hollywood Expo. However, he found his true joy over the years in supporting the non-profits that meant the most to him, including the United Way, Special Olympics, Flathead Industries, and wildlife refuges.

Gary's warmth and charisma knew no bounds. He had a remarkable ability to light up any room he entered, effortlessly captivating those around him with his magnetic personality. His laughter was contagious and his stories were legendary.

Gary is survived by his esteemed brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Kay Walrack, who stood by his side through thick and thin. He also leaves behind children Corey Newbill, Chris (Melissa) Lenahan, and Kelsey (Sean) Gummer, grandchildren Steele Lenahan, Callahan Gummer, and Vivianna Gummer, nephews Perry, Kent Kenny, Ron, Scott, and nieces Cindy, Dori, Christy and Linda, twelve great nieces and nephews, and ten great-great nieces and nephews

The world feels a little dimmer in the wake of Gary's passing, having lost his radiant smile. His spirit lives on in the countless lives he touched, and his memory will remain a beacon of light in the minds of all who knew him.

Services to honor and celebrate Gary's life will be held on April 13th at 1 pm at Croxford Funeral Home in Great Falls, Montana. Viewing to begin at noon. Reception to follow service at Croxford . Burial at 4:30pm at Highland Cemetery.

COME WITH ME
God saw you getting tired
And a cure was not to be
So He put His arms around you
And whispered `Come with Me.´
With tearful eyes
We watched you suffer
And saw you fade away,
Although we loved you dearly
We could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands at rest,
God broke our hearts to prove
He only takes the best.
It´s lonesome here without you,
We miss you more each day,
Life doesn´t seem the same
Since you´ve gone away.
When days are sad and lonely
And everything goes wrong,
We seem to hear you whisper
`Cheer up and carry on.´
Each time we see your picture,
You seem to smile and say
`Don´t cry, I´m in God´s keeping
We´ll meet again someday.´
You never said `I´m leaving´,
You never said goodbye,
You were gone before we knew it,
And only God knew why.
A million times we needed you,
A million times we cried,
If love alone could have saved you,
You never would have died.
In life we loved you dearly,
In death we love you still ,
In our hearts you hold a place,
That no one could ever fill.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
But you didn´t go alone,
For part of us went with you,
The day God took you home.

I first met Gary in 1978. The last time I heard from him was a birthday wish shortly before he passed. 46 years of friendship.

You know you have a true friend
when time and distance cannot
break your bond.

May you be as blessed in the next life,
my friend,
as I was in this one by knowing you.

Gary´s humor reveled..........His Great Falls High School friends Phil Faccenda and I were seeking donations for replacement historic windows at GFHS. Phil and I got approval from the school district to replace windows as a demonstration project as long as it did not cost the tax payers. We were successful with the first batch in the library and donors for a window got a small brass plaque on the window sill with their name on it. Gracious Gary wanted to donate the thousands for a replacement window. But on only two conditions, it had to be in a girl´s bathroom and his name must be spelled correctly on the plaque. Sadly, our demonstration project concluded so his window was not implemented. Darrell Swanson

"Friendship" sums it all up with Gary.
For many years now, I've been blessed to have Gary as a best friend.
Almost every morning without fail, we shared a short text or chat or political meme and then something about a car I found I found online.
Our discussion would always revolve around what day next week we would meet for breakfast at the Buffalo restaurant up by Gary's house in Whitefish.
I can't remember a birthday party or graduation party for our family or our two children or my wife's nonprofit fundraiser that didn't have Gary be in attendance.
Last year he even told me "with a big smile" that this was the first baby shower he'd ever attended, for our daughter.
Gary always will be my best of friends, one to be celebrated, one to be cherished, and one to brag about and one worth having.
I will carry you in my heart and travels bud.
God's speed Gary.
