I fondly remember Gedney from his law school days when I was assistant to the dean. Even then he was lovable and a special person!

Gedney was my first employer when I ditched Michigan winters in favor of Charleston charm 36 + years ago. I was a house guide for 16 Meeting St when she was referred to as The Calhoun Mansion. The most wonderful job of my life with the best boss ever! I knew every corner and then some of that house. Easter parties on the side lawn with "Granddaddy Boone" and family, pony rides and ice cream served on silver platters. It was like walking into another time. Gedney was a character and larger than life, but an old soul too who was kind and generous. Charleston has truly lost a gem. My heartfelt condolences to his family.

There really aren't enough words or space here to describe what your friendship and guidance has meant to me over the decades. To say you will be missed would be a huge understatement. Life well lived........I love you my friend. Til Valhalla.........

I will always remember how wonderful Gedney was with my son Andrew, he was so patient and kind teaching Andrew how to shoot a BB gun and hit the target.I will never forget Andrew´s expression with the biggest smile!
My heart goes out to his family for their loss.

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted" Matthew 5:4 I was privileged to know Gedney ever since I graduated from law school. He was a true southern gentleman not only in private but professionally. He was kind enough to share advice and never expected anything in return. About 30 years ago, he was kind enought to volunteer to host a beautiful reception in my honor at the Mansion when I was elected as President of a national specialty bar association back in 1990. Those who attended were enthralled by his personality and truly appreciated his sharing the history of Charleston and the Mansion. Personally, I will never forget the sage advice he gave me as a new lawyer or his continuing kindness as I started practicing. He is a true loss not only to his family, but to the community and certainly to the profession of law. "My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever,"Psalm 73:26 Diane Rodriguez, Sumter SC
