A mentor, friend, & moral touchstone, Gene was in my life for 47yrs. Spontaneous and inspiring, his favorite saying as we began work in the recording studio was, "Let's get it going & growing - we're burning daylight!" RIP, "Daddy" G!

I didn´t know this man but `A Night With Daddy G´ and `Quarter to Three´ were my favorite songs as a teenager. All of my friends think of me when they hear those great songs. Even today, >60 years later, Daddy G´s music fills me with joy. Thank you sir! RIP

Gene was to me a mentor, friend, & moral touchstone for over 2/3 of my life. In our works on music production, he had a favorite expression (borrowed, I suspect from time spent with the SCLC), "Let's get it going & growing - we're burning daylight!"...RIP, "Daddy" Gene, RIP.

Rest In Heaven Gene! You were always the kindest man to everyone in (and out) of music! And Muddy even forgave you for Electric Mud, which turned out to be so hip that Hendrix played it backstage to get in the mood for his shows! Thanks, G!

My first memory of Mr. Gene Barge is his sweaters and his cologne walking around Gatlings Funeral home. He´d be there producing in the studio with all of those artists like The Soul Stirrers . Also my father and I watching all the movies he was in. He and my father Pastor (emeritus) Brayboy would talk almost weekly and talk Bible . He´d call my dad "Paul´s man" because their conversations would be about Paul from the Bible. What a gift Mr. Barge is to music and to his friends and family. My deepest condolences to his family. Love, Pastor Brayboy and daughter Jennifer.
