Gene Berkowitz Obituary

Published by Contra Costa Times on Jul. 15, 2015.
Gene Berkowitz Jan. 20, 1935 - July 10, 2015 Resident of Danville Gene Berkowitz passed away in peace the morning of July 10, 2015, Gene is survived by his wife Lillian, sons Michael and Greg, daughter-in-law Lori and grandchildren, Brendan and Connor. Gene was a wonderful husband, father, papa and friend. He was born in Youngstown Ohio and later moved west to Southern California as a young man. He attended college at UCLA where he earned a degree in marketing. After graduating college, he entered into the Air Force to serve his country. Gene married his longtime girlfriend Lillian Cooper in 1962. They moved to Northern California soon after, where they called home and started a family. Gene had a successful career in the electrical utility industry, where he worked for Westinghouse Electric and later established a strong partnership at Pacific Utility Supply Company. Gene's true passion was his friends and family. You could always catch him with a smile and a laugh, either on the golf course trying to sink that putt, bocce court or travelling around the world. More recently he was found spending his time as papa, making it to every event he could with his two grandchildren. Either on the soccer field, baseball diamond or stage, he didn't want to miss anything. Gene will be truly missed and always remembered. Service was held July 14tth at 11am: Gan Shalom Cemetery, 1100 Bear Creek Rd., Briones, CA 94553 The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to: Bruns House Hospice Foundation of the East Bay, 3470 Buskirk Ave., Pleasant Hill, CA 94523 In Memory of Gene Berkowitz.
