Gene H. Mize, 84, Double Springs, Ala., died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003, at Walker Baptist Medical Center, Jasper, Ala. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, at Pinkard Funeral Home, Haleyville, Ala. The funeral will be Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Pinkard Funeral Home, Haleyville, with burial in Winston Memorial Cemetery, Haleyville, Ala.Officiating at the service will be Arvy Dupuy and Vance Hutton.He was a retired insurance agent, a member of Thornhill Church of Christ, where he served as an elder, belonged to the Haleyville Lions Club for 48 years and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Maggie Mize; and wives, Ruth Putnam Mize and Merita Howell Mize.He is survived by his wife, Anna Stockton Mize; children, Joel Mize, of Denver, Colo., Elwyn Mize, of Haleyville, Ala., Clay Mize, of Florence, Ala., Jerry Mac Stockton, of Double Springs, Ala., Jeanette Masdon, of Haleyville, Ala., Gary Mize, of Haleyville, Ala., Sue Phillips, of Jackson, Tenn.; brothers, Emit L. Mize, of Mobile, Ala., Tony Mize, of Haleyville, Ala., Wilburn Mize, of Haleyville, Ala.; sisters, Frances Bailey, of Littleville, Ala., and Virginia Logan, of Haleyville, Ala.; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.In lieu of flowers, make contributions to Heritage Christian University, 3625 Helton Drive, Florence, AL 35630.Pinkard Funeral Home, of Haleyville, is directing.
