So sad to see that my cousin, Gene, has died. I have been working on the Coburn family geneology and looked up his name. My heart goes out to all of Gene's family. I haden't seen him since I was a child.

So saddened to learn of Gene's passing. Our prayers and love go out to you Kim and the rest of the family. We remember Gene most for his love and dedication to those with special needs. He was always there for WISO and the athletics, coaching them, encouraging them, and supporting them. Bill remembers Gene getting a hole-in-one in Halstead during one of our funding raising events for WISO. He is missed! Bill & Gayle Huffman

I would like to say that I remember Mr. Mudd when he worked at Osage Park back in the 60s and 70s. He would usually run us off when we didn’t swing on the swings correctly. I know he was just trying g to keep us safe! Good old times! Sorry to hear he has passed on! RIP Mr. Mudd!

I have such great memories of Gene at Osage rec center. Four square tournaments, slow bike races, “Let’s make a deal” while he wore records on his ears:). Gene was a father figure to hundreds of kids over the years, including me. My fondest memory was when he took me to Roaring River with his family to trout fish. I’ve been going back for the last 50 years and I always remember that first trip. Going to miss you Gene. Rest In Peace.

I haven't seen Gene for many years, and now, sadly, I see him here. I met Gene in the late 1950's when he was a Recreation Supervisor at the Hilltop Recreation Center. He also coached our Hilltop baseball team the summer of 1959. I worked with Gene 1961/62 when I was a Park Board Recreation Supervisor at Osage Park where Gene was co-director. Gene was a good, good guy and a hoot to be around. Too many stories for here. Godspeed Gene, and thank you for sharing a part of your life with us, and the wonderful and unforgettable memories of my youth, and beyond.

I will never forget the fun times that my sisters and I had at Osage Recreation Center when we were children. Gene was so funny and knew just what to say or do to get a giggle out of us. He was a champion of children and I will always remember the wonderful and silly times we had because of him. My condolences to all of his family and friends.

Watching the Shocker opener, seeing this for the 1st time, and feeling my dad with me.

What dad meant to me, there aren't enough words. Knowing and seeing (and growing up hearing 1000x) what my dad meant to others is an amazing feeling of pride. He had shoes far to big to ever try to fill, but it's been an honor for 49 years to live in his shadow. I hope I have done his legacy a tiny bit of justice. I'll miss you pop, but you'll always be in my heart just like every day before. We had our thing, and no regrets.

Last, I want to thank you for teaching me to fish and love Roaring River the way you did. Other than my 2 son's, it's the most important and special thing in my life!

Gene was my mentor putting me work for the park board when I was just 13 years old. I work for Gene for many years and work my way up to many other positions with recreation department until moving to Colorado in 1979. I met my wife of more than 50 years, Kathy(Horning) at Osage park working for Gene. To this day I feel Genes influence in my life. Rest in peace my old dear friend.
