Gene and Lucy were my second set of parents growing up in Freehold Twp. There wasn't anything they wouldn't do for me while John and I would roam around NJ and get ourselves in trouble one way or another. I can't remember how many times Gene came to my rescue with a gallon of gas in my 67' CJ Jeep while I was stuck on the side of some back road in Freehold and Howell NJ. Back in the day without cell phones you only have one or two chances to reach someone on their home phone when stuck on the side of the road somewhere and Gene always answered the call. Gene was an awesome master carpenter and taught me so many tricks of the trade that I still use in my own wood shop today.
In fact, my first real construction job was working for Gene's boss, Arnold at the Jersey shore with my buddy John on Italian crews digging ditches, moving material or making mortar. We did whatever they asked of us and I think Gene loved to watch John and I fall asleep in his truck before we even got a few blocks from the jobsites on our way home. Because of my start as a construction laborer working with Gene I was able got a start working the subsequent years during HS and College working all kinds of construction jobs. I had the pleasure to tell Gene and thank him this past July 4th that I have always contributed my career start as a Civil Engineer and running my own construction engineering and general contracting firm because of the opportunity he provided John and I working summers when we were 16 years old. I have always credited that start and my success getting the construction bug working for Gene and his boss Arnold.

The other find memory growing up with Gene was the time we spent on his small bass boat fishing and crabbing. We would spend many weekends bobbing in the middle of the Barnegat Bay sometimes eating more then we caught in crabs or spending more on bait then the crabs we caught.
Gene we will all miss you.
With Love
