Gene Terrell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 29 to Jul. 30, 2015.
BURLINGTON - Gene Ray Terrell, 64, completed his life's journey to meet his Lord July 25, 2015.
A native of Alamance County, Gene was born, Jan. 15, 1951, to Chester Leon Terrell and Leona "Lucy" Freeman Terrell, both of whom preceded him in death.
Gene's worked as an HVAC technician and retired as a print technician. He was best known for his Hickory smoked barbeque and his famous "Busha" barbeque sauce. He loved his work as a volunteer at the Caring Kitchen and was an active and eager participant in his church's various ministries. As a veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in Berlin, Germany.
Gene is survived by his sisters, Yvonne Barber of Graham, Sue Horner of Haw River, Mary Lou Chambers of Greensboro, Linda Brown and Jeanette Mann, both of Burlington; brothers, Phillip Michael Terrell of the Philippines and Anthony Lee Terrell of Graham; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He we predeceased by his sister, Betty Jo Sanford; and brothers Larry Terrell, Harold Dean Terrell, Charles Robert Terrell, Allan Freeman Terrell, Thomas Joel Terrell and Timothy Joe Terrell.
Gene's innate love for people was born and fostered by living with his large and affectionate family. He learned to care for his fellow human beings at a very early age and that trait carried through the rest of his life. This aspect of his personality was manifested in his volunteer work and the special tenderness he extended to all, but especially to veterans, with distinct regard for wounded soldiers. His kind disposition and good nature was augmented by his wit which was always incisive but never caustic. He loved engaging people in conversation just for the sake of getting to know them and making them laugh.
Gene had a passion for fishing and kayaking-he loved to be immersed in the creation of the God he praised. He was an ardent believer and participant in the ministries that his church provided and, on behalf of Gene and his entire family, we would like to thank his church family at Integrity Church for the outpour of support of love that they provided before, during, and after his cancer diagnosis.
A celebration of life will be conducted by the Rev. Bud Wrenn at 7 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2015, at Integrity Church in Burlington. The family will receive visitors after the service.
