Published by Legacy Remembers on May 6, 2008.
Genevieve A. Chaffin, 86, of Cathedral City, CA. Loving and cherished Wife, Mother, Grandmother and friend passed on May 1st, 2008. She was born to Walter Jones and Margaret Dunn on December 27, 1921 in Butler, MO., being one of nine siblings. Baptized on February 18, 1962 in Long Beach, CA, her faith allowed her to maintain a strong spiritual relationship throughout life. She met Lemual Archie Chaffin in Lakewood, CA and later married him on April 20, 1974 in Las Vegas, NV. For numerous years Genevieve worked as a homemaker and her love of children led her to open a home day care center. She then worked for many years as a bookkeeper before retiring to the Desert in 1986. Wanting to stay active, she went back to work at the Date Palm Postal and Photo Center where she was affectionately known as "Mom" to all before retiring for good in 1996. Genevieve's hobbies included taking care of her family, cooking and cheering for the San Diego Chargers & Los Angeles Lakers. She truly embodied the phrase "Joy of cooking", with her specialty being biscuits and gravy served every Sunday. Genevieve is survived by her Husband Lemual Archie Chaffin of Cathedral City, CA, sister, Jean Wilson of Butler, MO., sons, Fred Prater Jr. of Cathedral City, CA, Larry Prater of Santa Barbara, CA, John Bandy of Rancho Mirage, CA, grandchildren, David Bohan of Midland, TX, Fred Prater III of La Quinta, CA, Ginny Funk of Norco, CA, Jason Rigney of Bakersfield, CA, Merriah Michel of Woodland, CA. Viewing will be Tuesday May 6, 2008 from 5:00P.M. to 9:00P.M. Services will be held Wednesday May 7, 2008 11:00A.M. at Forest Lawn Mortuary. Genevieve was a kind and caring woman that will be remembered as a special person for touching the lives of many.
