Genevieve “Jenny” Cecilia Scanlan Broussard took her place among the saints on All Saints Day, November 1, 2023, in Biloxi, Mississippi. Born in Pago Pago American Samoa, Jenny was the oldest of five children. In 1942 her family relocated to the beautiful island of Oahu in the Hawaiian Islands. Her parents were the owners and operators of The Freeze King in the Kaimuki neighborhood of Honolulu, Hawaii. In 1954 she met the love of her life, US Navy man and Biloxi boy, Norman Joseph Broussard. They were married at Saint Theresa's Catholic Church in Honolulu where she was also a student at the school. Jenny traveled 6,256 miles across the Pacific to make a life with her Navy boy. She and Norman were married 68 years and are members of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Biloxi. Jenny received a commendation from the office of the Holy See in Rome along with other members of her Rosary prayer group. They formed a weekly prayer circle and prayed for the welfare of family and friends as well as for the healing of our world. Jenny was known for her beautiful penmanship that she accredited to the nuns at the school as they practiced daily. Jenny lived a long happy life and was blessed to see five generations of her children. She loved her grandchildren and was famous for thinking of excuses for them not to leave. Many times while trying to get the grandkids out of the door, she would offer them something to eat. Once she went as far as to ask, “Would you like Nana to make you Jello before you leave?” Jenny surrounded herself with a close circle of friends that she considered family, “her sister friends”. She will be sorely missed and will always be remembered for the love she gave us all. Jenny is preceded in death by her parents, Vincent Scanlan and Virginia Shafer Scanlan; sister and brothers, Veronica “Vera” Scanlan Munar, Vincent “Pea” Scanlan Jr., Herbert “Epi” Scanlan and Raymond Scanlan of Honolulu, Hawaii; She is survived by her husband Norman Joseph Broussard; brother, Eric Scanlan(Emilia), Los Angeles, CA; daughters, Myra Broussard, Monica Broussard Fulmer (Greg); grandchildren, James Edward Flowers, Virginia Nate’ Commander, Franklin Saul Fulmer, Noah Joseph-Broussard Fulmer(Melanie), New Orleans, LA; great grandchildren, Jullian Flowers, Keanu Jenkins, Brody Carter, and Cecilia Lamey; great great-grandson, Adrian “AJ” Jenkins; nephew, Vincent Scanlan(Ginny), Slidell, LA and many more loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
