I am sorry to hear of George's death. May you, Bev, and the rest of the family know and have the remembrance that he was a good, kind, and caring man. It was an honor knowing both of you and the rest of family. May God always keep and bless you all

George and Bev were dear friends to Joel and me when we lived in Humboldt County in the '70s and '80s. Among my dear memories is that of George standing in the middled of a creek on a large rock fly fishing. As he played out his ine, that fly would float out on the air for an impossibly long time and distance and land smack in the middle of the exact pool in the creek that was George's target. Within moments, it seemed, a large trout or steelhead would be on the line and he'd play the fish in, release it, and cast again. Sheer artistry!

My husband Steen thought that George was one of the most inspirational teachers he had in college and the fishiest man he knew. We both enjoyed his warmth and friendship over the years. Our thoughts are with Bev and the whole family at this time.

I met George only a few times when I attended HSU but I was well aware of his huge contribution to the fisheries program in which I was benefiting. That very program is what prepared me for a very stimulating career. My thoughts are with George's family and thank you George for your invaluable contributions to our profession.

Fisheries 1968

George was always one of my favorite people from the first time I met him when I came to Humboldt. He walked fast, talked fast and thought fast and I loved interacting with him when I needed help as a new faculty member. He was an inspiration as a leader of the graduate program and he taught me the true role of a faculty member. Later Lynn and I enjoyed our talks with him at Timber Ridge, and we looked forward to seeing him when we were there. We will miss his great good humour and friendship. He is one of those people a person will always remember in their lives.

Thanks George for being my mentor and friend. I will remember you always. My first introduction to the study of fish was through your course in ichthyology. Little did I know it would lead to my career. Thank you also for your friendship and guidance when I returned to HSU as the new ichthyologist.

Thanks to George for mentoring when I was a graduate student. I'm thinking about the times he was directing his and everyone's energies at the Arcata fishponds. May that energy flow on.
