Dr. Baxter was a teacher and a mentor to me. He would praise when deserved but give a "swift kick in the pants" when deserved as well (in a thoughtful kind way). I was his work study for three years in the rat lab. I know the reason I am a psychology teacher has a lot to do with his influence. I am deeply saddened by his passing. Ms. Baxter, William, and Beth, please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dr. Baxter was an iconic figure to me. He was instrumental in my college success and preparation for graduate school. I attended King College and graduated with a degree in Psychology in 1983. Dr. Baxter demanded my best and he saw my potential before I ever knew I had potential. He was a fair and kind person. He was one of the most genuine and altruistic people I have ever known. He was a great mentor, teacher and friend. He will be greatly missed.
I recall that I was going to skip class one day and justified that decision by telling myself that I was tired and wanted to relax. The phone outside my dorm room rang and I answered it. Dr. Baxter was on the phone and said "Michael, we're waiting on you." I will miss you Dr. Baxter.
