Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 8 to Aug. 11, 2014.
George was born in
Ferndale, Calif., and was the grandson of prominent early-Ferndale citizen,
George Mount Brice.George attended the University of California at Davis.
Before he could complete his education, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as a
navigator during WWII, flying 32 missions in all before returning home. He
received several Oak Leaves and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He met and
married Grace Curry in 1945 and they bore three children. For many years, they
made their home in Hillsboro where his wife, Grace, worked at both Hillsboro
and then Glencoe High Schools in the attendance office. He was predeceased by
his son, Craig; wife, Grace; and brothers, Herbert and Raymond. He is survived
by his children, Mount and Lisa; grandchildren, Scott and Greg; and
great-grandchildren, Kira and Luke. He leaves a legacy of kindness, generosity,
dedication to family and a positive outlook. Anyone who's life he touched was
always the better for it. He will be greatly missed. At his request, there will
be no service. George will be interred in the historic Brice family plot in
Ferndale Cemetery, Ferndale.

My heart goes out to you for the deep loss you must be feeling for your beloved George. How sad to lose someone so loved and so needed. May you find comfort in prayer and in one another. (Jeremiah 29:12,13)

George was my mentor at Durham and Bates. In a few months I will close, with retirement, a 35 year career that began at his elbow. Few people, certainly few people in business, combine in their person both serenity and a readiness, when necessary, to run to the sound of the guns. George was such a person. He was a master of the elegantly antique craft that is the practice of marine insurance claims. I owe him much and will forever remember not only his expertise but also his kindness, his patience and his twinkling sense of humor.
