George Wayland Barnette Jr. WISE, Va. George Wayland Barnette Jr., 80, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at his home. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, a 50 year member of the Hoge Masonic Lodge #8 A.F. and A.M. of Wise, Norton Suthers Masonic Lodge, Norton Chapter and Commandry, 32nd degree Scottish Rite, and 33rd degree Mason, Kazim Temple Shrine, Royal Order Jesters. He was Past President of the Wise County Shrine Club, was the first president to raise over 100,000.00 dollars for Shrine Hospitals. He was owner and operator of Barnette Contractors, Rim Rock Railroad and Rim Rock Quarries. Surviving are his loving wife of over 58 years, Shirlee Ellison Barnette; two sons, Dennis Barnette and wife, Lou and David Barnette and wife, Arlene; eight grandchildren, Aubree Yates, Christi Collins, Austin Barnette, Gabriel Barnette, Jordan Barnette, Lauren Barnette, Hannah Barnette and Mariah Barnette; 10 great-grandchildren, Callie, Andrew, Haddon, David, Kelsie, Connor, Macie, Kacie, Emilie and Hope; a sister, Emma Powers; a sister-in-law, Dona Ellison; special family members, Bruce Rose and Joyce McMillan; a host of other relatives and friends. Special thank you to his care givers, Debbie Jenkins, Charlotte Rowe and Cindy Tipton. The family will receive friends 4:30 until 7:30 p.m. Friday, August 16, 2013, at Sturgill Funeral Home, 1621 Norton Road SW Wise, Virginia. Masonic service will be conducted 7:30 p.m. by Hoge Lodge # 8 A.F. and A.M. Funeral Services will follow with Dr. James Kilgore and Jeff Rolen officiating. Entombment will be Private. I n Lieu of Flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to Camp Bethel, P.O. Box 390, Wise, VA 24293, Hoge Lodge #8 P.O.
