George Edward Cain George Edward Cain (Edd) was born January 6, 1947, in the old Baptist Hospital in
Jackson, MS, and passed away March 23, 2026, in
Chapel Hill, NC. He was the son of the late George Judson Cain, Jr., and Mary Jane Wallace Cain.
Edd lived for over seven decades in Northeast Jackson and Madison, and in 2024 moved to
Chapel Hill, NC, to be near his children. Renown for his ability to skip classes without getting caught, he was a graduate of Murrah High School class of 1965. He attended MS State University and graduated from Belhaven University with a degree in Business. Fiercely self-reliant and hardworking, Edd created successful careers that allowed him to enjoy the challenges and rewards of being his own boss: realtor, home builder, certified property manager, and proud owner of Southern Windows and Doors. With close attention to detail and a true interest in providing excellence at a fair price, he quickly gained the respect and trust of those he served. Edd was a man of integrity, as honest as the day is long, as evidenced by his insistence on reimbursing his own business for each personal copy he made.
In his youth, summers at Camp Alpine for Boys instilled in Edd a deep, lifelong love of nature. He enjoyed working alongside Martha to maintain a beautiful lawn, as well as woodworking and handyman projects for family and friends. Some of his happiest times were spent deep sea fishing in the waters of the MS and LA Gulf, with lifelong friends Dan Brady and Perry Williams, who may as well have been his biological brothers. The guys would return home with ice chests filled with redfish, Spanish mackerel, red snapper, and the occasional flounder. The sizes of the "ones that got away" were outmatched only by tales of their daring ocean adventures and complaints about the irritating personal quirks of each other. Even with a poor catch, the trips were cherished events and proved invaluable for improving their mindset and outlook on life.
Edd was married to Martha Jordan, his childhood sweetheart, for 58 years. Having traded dogtags in the fourth grade, they literally grew up together. Edd and Martha forged a bond of resilience and love that made life rich, fun, and meaningful. Edd was devoted to her and their daughters, Ashley and Katie, and was the unfailing "right hand man" for their many endeavors, even if uncertain of their merit. Ashley, Katie, their husbands, and his four grandchildren were the joys of Edd's life, and he was profoundly grateful for their extensive and compassionate care during the last two years of his life.
Edd is survived by his wife, Martha, his daughters, Ashley (Fred Prulliere) and Katie (Kenny Langley), and grandchildren Olivier and Xavier Prulliere, and Emma and Charlie Langley, all of
Chapel Hill, NC. Survivors also include sister, Mary (Rick) Gangi of Lake Oswego, OR; sister-in-law Kathy (Mark) Wall of Madison, MS, brother-in-law, John (Susan) Jordan of Cleveland, SC, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
