George Candler, Jr. Obituary
George was born in Sharon, Pennsylvania on February 20, 1931, to George Linton and Mary Elizabeth Candler. He grew up and attended college in western Pennsylvania, receiving his degree in Electrical Engineering from Carnegie Institute of Technology. While at college he met his future wife, Marilyn Jean Grady, and they were married in Pittsburgh on June 1, 1957.
A devoted husband and father, George was a true gentleman, showing kindness and respect to everyone who crossed his path. He shared a passion for music and birding with his wife, as well as a fascination with culture and history, which inspired them to visit all seven continents.
George is survived by his wife Marilyn; his daughter Catherine of Alexandria, Virginia; his son Grady (wife Jan) of Pasadena, California; and his sister Margaret King (husband Max) of York, Pennsylvania. A celebration of his life will be held at The Lutheran Church of Saint Andrew in Silver Spring, Maryland on February 18, 2023, at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Audubon Society.
