The Bossman will always remain in my thoughts and prayers...............and I will continue to play his fantastic music until I join him in the Spiritual World. He was the "Gold Standard" of all DJ's, going way back to the late 40's. Rest in Peace, Porky! Doc.

I didn't grow up in Pittsburgh or anywhere near there but Porky Chedwick was a legend and known all over eastern America. it's sad that we don't see highly identifiable radio personalities like him anymore. And sad too that there aren't many who will give back to the community and make time for people the way he did.

I grew up in Hazelwood PA 1n the 40's and 50's. Listened faithfully to Porky on WHOD (1280 on your dial) from the day I found him on radio until I joined the navy in 1954. Really missed his music. Couldn't wait to get home on "boot" leave where I reconnected for two weeks to get my "fix" before going too far away for too long a time to ever hear him again. Never, ever found anyone, anywhere that was like Porky and his music. Missed him greatly then as I know he is missed greatly now by a great many. Wrote him a letter of support once and was thrilled when I heard Porky say on the air "received a great letter from Ed West, I know him well, thank you Ed" Loved him then, love him still - Miss you much Porky, Ed

We all know that we live and we die, but accepting the death of someone like Porky is not an easy thing. No matter what the age, young or old, losing someone like him is heartbreaking. For those of us entertainers in Pittsburgh, he was our "rock"...he supported us all with much enthusiasm and asked for nothing in return. He instilled in us our strong love for music with his own passion for music and his gentleness and loving mannerism made it all seem so simple. The sadness of losing him is overwhelming, but his passion for music will live on in we entertainers who have been deeply influenced by him. RIP my friend...thank you from all of us entertainers in Pgh...we will continue to make you proud of us by using your teachings...You will always be "The Bossman" of Pittsburgh...until we meet again.... PORKY WAS SUCH A HUGE PART OF EVERY DAY OF MY LIFE, AS WELL AS MY BROTHER'S IN OUR TEEN YEARS IN THE BURGH. HIS MUSIC HELPED TO SHAPE OUR PERSONALITIES, AND HE TAUGHT US WHAT IT WAS TO BE "TOTALLY COOL." HE WAS SO MUCH MORE THAN A DJ. THOSE OF US WHO GREW UP WITH HIM WILL NEVER FORGET HIM, AND THE FABULOUS TIMES WE HAD ROCKING OUT TO HIS MUSIC EVERY DAY ON WAMO! HE HAS ALREADY CONGREGATED WITH ALL THE ROCKERS IN HEAVEN, AND WILL CONTINUE TO BRING JOY BEYOND ETERNITY. DO WHAT YOU DO BEST, PORKY, AND ROCK ON! OUR HEARTFELT CONDOLENCES TO HIS FAMILY. LOVE YA!

HE HAD CALLED THE HOUSE MANY TIMES AND SHE ACTUALLY MET HIM ONE DAY ON 8TH AVENUE IN FRONT OF LEONA'S SHOW.SHE TOLD EVERYONE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD WHO SHE MET DURING THE NEXT FEW DAYS. SHE SAID THAT WAS MORE IMPORTANT THAN MEETING IKE WHO WAS PRESIDENT AT THE TIME.

Porkified. Yes, Porkified. What does it mean? It goes beyond being a “cool one,” and spending decades listening to and following the Pied Piper of Pittsburgh. It's about knowing, understanding, and admiring the man. The man, who decade after decade, genuinely and consistently displayed his kind and caring way, whether it was to help struggling artists who were turned away by the “mainstream” or having a life-long positive impact on tens of thousands of teenagers. Porkified is forever. We love you, Porky Chedwick. May God bless you and keep you.

Our sincerest condolences to the Chedwick family on the loss of this incredible man. We saw Porky at Cip's in Dormont last year and had the most wonderful time. He may have shuffled in as a 94 year old man but once that mike was in his hand, the Platter Pushin' Popa was transformed - and so were we. We were all "High on a Hill" back in the 1960's again. Rest in peace, my man. You've earned it.

Porky Chedwick on WAMO an influencial part of my teenage years. To this day, I attribute my love of Doowop and R&B to the many nights that I tuned my little Transistor radio to the Daddio of the Raddio. Many years have passed and I am long gone from the Pittsburgh area but I have never forgot how much I enjoyed Porky Chedwick and his music. God bless.

Porky played a request of my fathers' for me of Sinners' Dream when I was a kid. I loved the music back then, it was simpler and usually held a message for the listener to do the right thing. Thank you Porky for playing great music for all of those years. Thank you for being a great Pittsburgh DJ!

I will miss Porky! Although I have not seen him for some time, I have so many fond memories. After being introduced to him by my summer boss, he treated me like a celebrity and always said "there is my Golden Girl" since at the time I was a majorette at Pitt. He always made everyone feel so special and the fact that he remembered my name and who I was after I came back from living in CA is a testament to the type of man he was. Chedwick family, know that you will be in my prayers.

Don (Champ) Early / San Diego, California I was quite sadden when I was informed of Porky's passing. By Rick Gregory one of the original Sabers (calypso baby ). From Braddock who reside in San Francisco. Words cannot explain my heavy heart, and yet the great memories with Porky accompanying him to his Record Hops. The things that I learned about being fair and working hard even as a student at Homestead High School. When I first arrived in California I worked at a small radio station and I eventually became an MC for many of R&B and jazz shows in San Diego, and going to college as well. I will forever be grateful to Porky. [email protected]
