George Cone Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 21 to Feb. 25, 2024.
Canyon Lake - George William "Bill" Cone, age 78, peacefully departed on Tuesday February 6, 2024 in New Braunfels, Texas. He was born to George Sealy & Bertie Corrine (Ward) Cone on October 14, 1945 in San Antonio, Texas. Raised in Midland, Texas, Bill enjoyed being a True Texan and lived in various places all over Central and South Texas...Austin, Houston, The Woodlands, New Braunfels, Victoria, Corpus Christi area and then retired back to the Central Texas area. Bill loved people; meeting new people, getting to know them, enjoying work and fun times together which led to many enduring friendships based on shared understandings, mutual respect, and a love of life! Some of these were lifelong friendships from Midland High School, Trinity University and University of Texas.

Bill was a unique individual which included an always quick wit and great sense of humor! He had many talents and interests including music, hunting, fishing, wood working, and rock polishing...all of which he loved sharing with others. Bill most especially shared his gift of music through his singing and guitar playing...also playing his Grandmother's over one-hundred year old grand piano. He was an exceptionally talented banker for more than forty years, including 25 years of association and mentoring with the Southwestern Graduate School for Bankers at SMU. After retiring from banking, Bill pursued various other work involving educating, helping and mentoring young entrepreneurs in Corpus Christi and then San Antonio. Although Bill truly enjoyed being a banker, he really loved his "second career" and had so much fun working with and mentoring young business men and women!

Bill married his high school sweetheart on August 26, 1967. During their nearly 57 years of marriage, they enjoyed many years of travel together and raised their son Kelly. The last eight years of Bill's life were made even more special with the addition of his much adored granddaughters!

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Connie Armstrong Cone of Canyon Lake; son, George Kelly Cone of Austin; brother, Kendrik Cone of St. Augustine, Florida; granddaughters, Ada & Caia Cone and numerous other relatives and dear friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, March 22, 2024 at The River Venue in New Braunfels, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Bill's name be made to the following: Hope Hospice of New Braunfels, Lewy Body Dementia Association or any charity of your choice.
