George M. DeCarlo, 97, of Plantsville, husband of the late Virginia (Benigni) DeCarlo, passed away peacefully at Regency House on Thursday, May 4, 2023.
George was born in Hartford on October 7, 1925, the son of the late Antonio and Anna (DiGiovanni) DeCarlo. George was a World War II Navy veteran, and after his military service, began work for Napier’s where he retired after fifty years of service as Plant manager.
He lived a long and full life. He was an active man, playing racquet ball at the YMCA for many years. He had a strong work ethic and took great pride in his job and maintaining his home and yard.
George is survived by his son, Bob DeCarlo of Wallingford, his daughter Janice Brown and her husband, Ron of Meriden, his grandchildren, Scott and Tracey Brown and Uriah DeCarlo and his wife, Laura, his great grandchildren, Rylan, Max and Autumn. George is also survived by his companion, Emily Sabatino of Plantsville; her daughter, Deborah Sabatino; and Debbie’s children, Stacey and Jennifer. They were like a second family and took great care of George. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Louie, Fred and Tony DeCarlo and his sister, Mary Hickey.
We would like to thank the staff at Regency House in Wallingford, especially Sarah and Garfield, for their care and compassion while George was there.
George’s family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext. on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 from 9 am until 10:30 am when his funeral cortege will proceed to the Church of the Resurrection, 115 Pond Hill Road, Wallingford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am. We got to know George only in the last few weeks of his life, but that time was long enough to learn what a very special man he was. We are not only blessed to have become his friend, but also to have become friends with his family. God bless all.

I was very sad to hear of the passing of George. I worked with him for years at the Napier Co. George always had a great story to tell of the history of the company and who worked there in years past. RIP George.

Like so many disappointments in life I never got to say good bye to my friend George . He never forgot me or my wife Litsa and for that I am grateful . He will always be “Gentleman George” to me and I will remember him with great fondness . I worked with George for 15 years in the Napier Company and had established a great synergy with him . He never failed to achieve any job I asked of him and always with an impish chuckle . George was an easy man to love . God bless his family - his soul is already being nourished in God’s fatherly love
