TURBOTVILLE - George H. Dugan, 89, of Hickory Road, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2009, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He had been a guest at Kramm Health & Rehabilitation, Watsontown since October 2008.
He was born Jan. 25, 1920, in Watsontown, a son of the late Homer Byron and Susie (Munsell) Dugan. On Aug. 3, 1952, he married the former Ruth Minier, and they have celebrated 56 years of marriage.
A long-time farmer, George had also worked with his father in Homer B. Dugan & Sons Contracting earlier in life. He retired in 1985 after 30 years with Jasper Wood Products, which became Masonite and eventually National Gypsum. He had also worked for Callenberger Contracting for a few years.
He was a member of Holy Spirit Evangelical Lutheran Church, Turbotville, the Muncy Wildcats Hunting Club, the Consolidated Sportsmen, Muncy, a social member of the Watsontown American Legion and Turbotville Veterans of Foreign Wars and a former member of the Milton Moose.
George enjoyed carpentry, masonry, farming and hunting.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Marie and Milton Lesher of Sunbury, and Kathy and Joel Mabus of Kankakee, Ill.; three sons and two daughters-in-law, George R. and Renee Dugan of Turbotville, Ken and Joyce Dugan of Suffolk, Va., and John Dugan of Phoenixville; 12 grandchildren, Michelle, Rebecca, Melissa, Jennifer, Janette, Joseph, Jason, Timothy, Catie, Milton, Marie and Vanessa; 13 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Anna Smith of Williamsport.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Evalyn VanDine and Edna Mabus, and one brother, Charles Dugan.
Friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Brooks Funeral Home, 207 Broadway St., Turbotville. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 10275 Route 44, Turbotville, with the Rev. Dan May officiating.
Burial will follow in Exchange Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in his memory be made to Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 6, Turbotville, PA 17772.
